Like look.. I'm not hating on Nintendo at all. When you make a hit console of the generation, you'd obviously want that success again right?   You'd make a sequel with a twist to it this time, so that it won't be the exact same thing. So you do it.... and that's what exactly Nintendo did. The Wii U's failure could've been anyones mistake. Anyone could've messed it up. So I'm not blaming Nintendo for Wii U's failure. I blame the mistake they made.

When you create a big new success... many people won't adjust to the "New" way you created. I wasn't a fan AT ALL with the motion controls and it ruined some Wii games for me (look up my threads... be careful, i was a hothead writing them). I just wanted regular controls so I can peacefully stay still. Not workout and swing my arms around. So I didn't want a Wii successor. I wanted a new console that didn't have motion controls.

When Wii U was announced I was very dissapointed and didn't like the gamepad gimmick. Also another thing that dissapointed me was motion controls was still sorta here. Wii Party U used them. But that doesn't mean I hated the Wii U. I had TONS of fun with the WIi U and is my 2nd favorite Nintendo console of all time. Just because it offered regular controls for most of its games. Splatoon, Wind Waker, Super Mario Maker and Mario Kart. Just regular controllers is what made the Wii U better than the Wii.

But Nintendo missed ALOT of things out of the Wii U. Partychat, Online multiplayer for all of its games, Voicechat for all of its games, a better messaging system and 3rd party support and it should've been more powerful. All these things made me dislike the Wii U. It felt like I was playing a last gen system. Just because Mario was going to be in the lowest HD makes it a seller? I really wanted the WIi U to be powerful so it can take the 3rd party support back. And I thought I was gonna have to deal with these issues for Seven years.....but then the system failed.

This cut the Wii U's lifespan short and wow we just heard about the Nintendo Switch!! A brand new system with possibly proper/updated functionalities! The Wii U was great and I had a blast with it. Maybe I can sell my Playstation and get all games on the Switch? Who knows how it'll do. BUT I PRAY ITS POWERFUL ENOUGH TO GET 3RD PARTY SUPPORT BACK. I HOPE IT'LL HAVE A MUCH MUCH BETTER MENU DESIGN AND I HOPE IT'LL HAVE EVERYTHING THE WII U FAILED TO DO. I wish Nintendo for all the best with the Switch! And I am digging the Portable Home console hybrid.

Nintendo is a strange company. I suppose that's because it was controlled by men who where there when it was on top and dictating terms to everyone, including developers, publishers, retailers, and even customers. It seemed like their answer to a lot of the progress other consoles were achieving was simply, "We're Nintendo, we don't have to do that stuff." Like they could do what they wanted and customers would flock regardless. They were perpetually behind the other consoles in terms of features when there was no real reason for it. No, that's not charming, that's a disservice to your consumer base.

Maybe the fate of the Wii U opened some eyes and caused a little nervousness inside Nintendo headquarters. Nervousness is good. Just being Nintendo is no longer going to be enough. Brand erosion can occur rapidly.

The most meaningful sign that they're more aware of their position now is the joining of the home console and handheld console libraries into one platform. That's basically an admission that neither segment of their business can get the job done alone. Nintendo of old would never have considered such a move because they never thought either would fail to be enough.

A more desperate Nintendo will be a Nintendo that tries harder. That's a good thing. If the Wii U failure is the reason for merging platforms then it was probably worth it.

I would have agreed with you 4 years ago, but the WiiU showed that a desperate Nintendo isnt always a good thing.

You think they were desperate coming off the Wii?  I know the signs were that the casual market had moved on but I think they still had the confidence that they could hit another home-run with the Wii brand.

He's talking about Star Fox Zero, Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival, Super Mario Maker 3DS, Yoshi's Woolly World 3DS, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, etc.

All low quality games that Nintendo developed for a quick buck at the expense of their loyal fanbase.

what makes you think that you will get all those functionalities when Nintendo is scared child molesters leark on chat and target kids lol

I won't be glad if it looks like they didn't learn anything from its failure, or rather if they keep releasing very few and lackluster games

My bet with The_Liquid_Laser: I think the Switch won't surpass the PS2 as the best selling system of all time. If it does, I'll play a game of a list that The_Liquid_Laser will provide, I will have to play it for 50 hours or complete it, whatever comes first.

That's why they united their handheld and home console departments to make games for just one system... We'll get more games, even if there won't be much third party support.

Star Fox Zero just has funky controls. That doesn't make it low quality or cheap. People were asking for Super Mario Maker and Yoshi's Woolly World on the 3DS soooooooooo and also, Federation Force is actually a good game. They didn't make it either. Level 5 did, and they did a good job with it. Ultra Smash has at least good gameplay, even if it is low on content. Amiibo Festival... well you got me there.

It's good that they need to learn from their mistakes, but it's bad that the Wii U had to end up like this.. :/
