Forums - Nintendo - Nintendo is committing a lot of the same lethal mistakes they did with the WiiU, and more.

The OP has most things completely backwards, but that's because the failure of the Wii U isn't properly understood, just like every success of Nintendo isn't properly understood either. That's how an analysis of a sufficient amount of facts can lead to a completely wrong conclusion.

Here is the key point that throws off people: Both Wii U and Switch don't have much, if any AAA third party support. This serves as the common link and the basis for faulty evaluations of the two systems.

Here is why Switch is not repeating the same mistakes as Wii U:

1. Wii U was intended to get all the AAA third party multiplatform games.
2. Switch was not intended to get them.

This creates greatly different premises for both systems. If Wii U doesn't get the games, then Nintendo's plan gets crushed. If Switch doesn't get the games, then Nintendo's plan is still perfectly on track; this means the lack of AAA support is not detrimental to the system's chances for success.

In a nutshell, Switch flips the whole premise. What is perceived as a glaring weakness (lack of AAA support) is turned into a strength. Switch would not be able to exist in this form if AAA support had been on the list of things it has to have. What Switch is is the reason why Switch sells.

You're almost onto something.

Wii U = launched with a tired ass 2D Mario that nobody wanted by that point and ports of flawed AAA games at least half a year old. Took damn near a year for the first must-have first party title to arrive.

Switch = launched with a mold-breaking 3D Zelda that everyone has been praying for, for years and Mario Kart a month later. Splatoon to come soon as well.

How did I never see this thread before? Oh wow, thank you OP. I needed a good laugh.

But hey, if I was wrong, I was wrong, not like I could care much to be honest.

You certainly cared enough to bump your thread when you thought (too soon) that you were right.

Does this mean that you believe Wii U could have enjoyed the same success as Switch if the first party games were the same?

Nope. Too many other factors that Nintendo blundered with the Wii U and got right with the Switch (name, marketing, selling point, etc.).

Well, OP is already wrong. It did great in the west during its first month. During April it was the best selling console on Amazon US and the best selling overrall in Japan. May is not going to be different, we're at the middle of the month and it continues sell out on many major places, it's still the #1 console on Amazon US and the best selling in Japan as well. I doubt that will change soon, since Arms launch next month and Splatoon 2 the month after.

OP certainly cared enough to make 2 threads on the same matter and bump this one to brag how he was right (even tho it was too soon and he ended up being wrong). Let's man up and take responsability. Time to eat some crow.

Bet with Teeqoz for 2 weeks of avatar and sig control that Super Mario Odyssey would ship more than 7m on its first 2 months. The game shipped 9.07m, so I won

You cared enough to make a thread.  You can't say you don't care now that you've failed.

For the record, bananaking made two. This one and http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=217447&page=1

I was certain that Switch will be definitely much more popular than Wii U in any case, but damn It's hilarious to read crazy predictions like this that proved completely wrong. :D

We need to make thread were we will post crazy predictions like this and serve deserved crow.

Thank you for the laugh, OP. Damn, i still can't stop the laugh

It's quite clear no one really saw this coming. I was worried about the lack of games at launch but Zelda has held its fort and people love the console itself. With every month now the system will just get stronger. I for one have never played a console at launch this much and have been pleasantly blown away.

Anyways OP bonapetite!
