Forums - Sales Discussion - Blu-ray killing hddvd in Europe.

It's ok, GBallzack. Not everyone will agree with your viewpoint. Just understand that while some feel Blu-ray is being forced on them as a consumer, others are praising Sony for the move. That doesn't make them sheep if they enjoy the product. The PS3 is by far the best Blu-ray player on the market, the cheapest, and it plays games dating all the way back to the PS1. It's a matter of opinions. Others have stated theirs, you have stated yours, and they conflict. It's a wonderful world we live in where we aren't forced to comply with anyone's opinions.

Wow, this debate is going nowhere. Isn't this a video game forum? BlueRay vs HD-DVD is really only relevant to Sony itself. If B-Ray wins, both Microsoft and Nintendo will happily release their next consoles with it. If Toshiba made game consoles, then maybe it would matter to us gamers. That being said, I think that B-Ray might be winning since more studios are behind it. Either way, I wouldn't buy a player until the dust settles, but I would buy a PS3 regardless if it had some sort of game that's so amazing to make it worthwhile.

NO ONE IS FUCKING SAYING YOU'RE FORCED TO BUY A PS3! WHAT I'M SAYING IS THAT IF A PERSON WERE TO, SAY, HYPOTHETICALLY, BUY A PS3, THEN THEY'D BE FORCED TO BUY IT WITH BLU-RAY AS WELL, AN UNEEDED ACCESSORY THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN OPTIONAL. SO LOGICALLY, TO BUY A PS3 IS TO HAVE BLU-RAY "FORCED ON THE CONSUMER"! THUS COMPROMISING THE PS3'S SALES AND SUCCESS THUS PROVING SONY'S POOR DECISION MAKING WHICH WAS MY ORIGINAL POINT. CAN I SPELL IT OUT ANY MORE SIMPLY FOR YOU? Jesus god why are you people so dense, are you all incapable of understanding abstract concepts of perspective in wording, is it so hard to see that I may not be using the word "forced" to the fullest extent of its literal meaning? Why is everyone here so damn two dimentional? Is it unfathomable that perhaps I'm suggesting that Blu-Ray is uneeded on the PS3 and for them to make it manditory for the PS3 it was in essense being "forced" on you? Dear sweet god in heaven do you people have no respect for the sanctity of logic and reason?!

Oh something just occured to me, the movie '300' is going to be on HD-DVD, hehe, good bye BLU-Ray in the U.S.

And if you want to buy a X360 you are forced to take a DVD reader .Maybe you would like HD-DVD ,maybe you would like BR ,or maybe you even think a CD driver is more than enought as the latest algorithms of compression can fit much more data inside than before. And once presented to the opportunity to upgrade to HD format Microsoft is forcing you to do it to HD-DVD and not to Blu Ray by the way .

That including the BR will compromise the PS3 sales and success remains to be seen .Speaking right now it may seems so due to the high price point but price will go down along the months and once the dust settles and the BR is the winner the PS3 will be seen as really great value for money and its BR drive will be another driving force. This tale is far from finished ,dont try to force on us you partial view of reality .

300 will be in both HD-DVD and Blu Ray .We cant say the same with Spiderman 3 or Pirates of the Caribean ,though ,wich are only available on Blu Ray.

Do any of you have any idea how long it took DVD to become mainstream? Why would you expect anything different for these HD formats?

I really doubt that HD-DVD or Blu-Ray will ever reach the speedy adoption rate of DVD.

DVD didn't require people to buy an entirely new home theatre to achieve quality results with the format.

They won't reach the speedy adoption rate of dvd because chickensh*t people like you are to scared to out and buy one. You don't need an entirely new home theatre system to achieve quality results from the format. Hdtvs have been out for some time now and you can get a 30" hdtv for under $400 if you don't have one by now or within a few years your just cheap. Please, please stop posting about the hd format wars if you don't have the balls to go out and spend the extra dough for the extra quality that hd gives you. Also I liked your graphs that do show a decline in player sales from 2003 to 2005 and I bet you that from this year on you will see dvd players decline significently.

Jeez, man. Calm down. Do you work for Sony or something? Why do you care if HD-DVD or Bluray achieve the same adoption rate as DVDs?

Either we're cheap - or we have other, more important, things to spend that money on. Like school, a mortgage, car payment, fiance, bills, etc.

Now go to your room and consider putting your fanboyism to sleep.

I own a hddvd player so no I do not work for Sony. I don't care if they achieve the same adoption rate as dvds they won't because there are two companies fighting for supremacy, just don't understand why people love Toshibas dvds but don't like Tosihibas hddvds just because Sony says that you need 50gb instead of 30gb. I have a mortgage, bills, car payment, wife, and two kids so yes you're cheap or you can't manage your finances. Why if someone has an opinion thats different than yours you say it's fanboyism, everyone has a favorite even you that doesn't mean it's fanboyism.

The only reason the prices will come down so fast is because the bluray drive made it so expensive that sales are slower than expected. Also their are other movies than spiderman or pirates. Some of them are fun to watch but they will never go down as truly great films. People said that when the PS3 came out hddvd was dead, people said when casino royal or night at the museum, or pirates came out hddvd was dead it still has around 45% of the market in the US so it's not dead.

Okay, I've had just about enough of you.

"I have a mortgage, bills, car payment, wife, and two kids so yes you're cheap or you can't manage your finances."

Priorities, jackass. I could go buy a $1000 HD-DVD player right now if I so desired. I DON'T WANT an HD-DVD or Blu-Ray player right now. And yes, I do have an HDTV. I have since 2001. I don't see the added benefit vs. price point right now. Plus 3/4 of my favorite movies aren't even slated for release on either format at this point.

Some of us don't want these formats right now. It's not because we're cheap, it's not because we're piss-poor at managing finances, it's because WE DON'T WANT IT.

Can I make that any more ****ing clear?

What is the added benefit for having an hdtv if your not using the hd part of it. $300 for an hddvd player that gives you 6x the picture quality and superb sound quality you can't see the added benefit for that price. If YOU DON'T WANT IT than why say anything about finances, why not just say that you don't want it and stop posting on the subject you jackass.

This is so off topic, but let me just tell you that the iTunes Store will win.

Hardcore gaming is a bubble economy blown up by Microsoft's $7 $6 billion losses.

No problem. I won't post in this thread anymore. I'm usually pretty rational but after four or five insults from nathantay, I lost my cool.

My apologies. I'll go find something else to talk about. :D
