Because no matter what Nintendo marketing might say, they are competing with Sony and Microsoft for userbase.

Let me put it to you this way. What is the likelihood that a PS4 or Xbox One owner owned a Nintendo console at one point in their lives? 95%? That means those users moved on from Nintendo hardware, and means Nintendo lost them as fans in favor of their competition.

PS4 owners aren't neccessarily the target audience that's the flaw in your thinking here much like 360 and PS3 audience weren't the target of the Wii.

What makes you think this?

Combination of things from some rumours to the current situation to even patents.

Recent rumour said the portable device with the console everyone has been reporting is barebones so can't really function as a portable it's more designed for the console's concept, interface and gimmick. The claims are that the platform in March is not replacing 3DS and that a dedicated HH is on the way for that which is backed up by Nintendo's actions in which 3DS is getting continued support throughout 2017 which wouldn't happen as Nintendo drops support for platforms when something will replace them. This suggest Wii U is the main target of being replaced with the claims that no more shipments are being made and the stoppage of support.

If anything so rumours may have mistaken it for a hybrid, one of the patents has a platform with a gamepad like device which would match the rumours vaguely.

Nintendo also said that the Nintendo DS wasn't replacing the Gameboy Advance.

So you're thinking this is an ultra powerful Wii U that takes cartridges and has removable sections from the new fancy tablet controller? Great. I hope you expect this thing to bomb like the Wii U did.

I really cannot wait for this thing to be announced so all of the people that think they know so much can realize how wrong they are.

And where did all of those Wii users go?

I bet a huge chunk of them went to PS4 and X1.

What exactly would be the target audience for a shoe box sized "casual" console be? Soccer moms who just absolutely need to have a 100 watt video game console?

PS4 and XB1 do serve the needs of basically 95% of console gamers, even moreso now that there's going to be different models, the cheaper base PS4 will become marketed more towards younger players with things like more LEGO bundles, the PS4 Pro will be marketed more towards teenagers/20/30 somethings with more disposable income. Same goes for XB1 and Scorpio (see: Minecraft XB1 S bundles).

If the $299 rumor is anything to go by, no chance.

So they're (in effect) getting out of the handheld business.

Look at their handheld sales totals for the last three generations versus their console sales and ask yourself if that really makes any sense whatsoever.

A Nintendo "console" doesn't mean "super duper power machine!" either. The last two Nintendo consoles used AMD chips too. You tell me where they stacked up to the Playstation or XBox.

I'm going to ask you is English your first language because your reply doesn't match anything said, the post even highlights the claim that the is a handheld on the way and your response is "So they're exiting the handheld business". No offence but either you read the post or don't reply with random arguments.

On the last 2 consoles guess what Wii U is more powerful than the PS3 and 360 and you have trouble thinking a NX console could be more powerful than the base model PS4? These arguments don't give you any ground as they're null and void by default, if the platform in March is a dedicated HC and not a hybrid it would be that out of the ordinary for them to have specs like that as PS4 wasn't even cutting edge on release 3 years ago.

Nope many of them are no longer catered to they're either playing Wiis still, mobile or continuing with their life, that market existed because they don't get catored to by the mainstream that's why the Wii took off.

I suggest you read whats in the post and not what you make up in your head, GBA didn't get added support when DS arrived yet 3DS is highlighted it's not the platform being replaced Wii U is. No I think the platform in March will be a home console and not a hybrid with a particular concept.

Look if you want to believe in some super powerful 4 TFLOP, 100 watt, phone book sized NX, be my guest. Just don't come here complaining later on that you didn't get what you wanted when there were plenty of indicators otherwise.

I said the same thing earlier in the year when a certain group of Nintendo fans steadfastly refused to believe Nintendo would not support the Wii U for a full 5 years (because other Nintendo consoles have been supported that long). I've learned there's a certain stubborness to the point of blocking out even obvious facts to want to believe, but I will say those posters then came back and started complaining that they didn't get what they wanted, even though I told them like 50 times that Nintendo had basically given up on the Wii U and there were multiple credible sources stating as much (like Nikkei).

I do suspect actually that even if Nintendo shows the NX to be a hybrid a certain "stubborn" section of the Nintendo fanbase will continue to hold out hope for a "real console NX" that will have PS4 Pro-type specs. Some people are never going to let that go.

Having followed every Nintendo system's development from "inception" beginning with the Nintendo 64/Ultra 64, the period right before Nintendo reveals a system is always the worst. There's always a group of people who have invented some fantasy Nintendo machine in their head and won't let it go.

This is basically now the third straight time I've seen this same exact pattern happen basically exactly the same way.

No dude my view is that it's plausible they use competent specs if the platform is not a hybrid you're the one right now hung up on Tegra because some person you admire at IGN bandwagoned on a rumour so you can't be moaning about stubborness as you're the worst offender in that aspect other rumours can be plausible as well. Your arguments with other people don't concern me as no matter what NX turns out to be is not a big issue to me as I'm open to it turning out different something I'm not sure is the same for yourself as the are indicators that suggest it's not a Tegra powered hybrid like you're pushing.
