Resident Evil 7 gets even more new details: no online mode, demo will be updated again

Capcom has spilled a bunch of new details on Resident Evil 7: biohazard ahead of its January release on PS4. Don't get your hopes up for any online play, though.

Speaking during an interview with YugaTech, Resident Evil 7: biohazard Producer, Masachika Kawata, revealed a slew of new details on the much-anticipated PlayStation 4 survival horror sequel.

Chiefly, Kawata-san addressed the topic of online modes for Resident Evil 7, confirming the game will be a completely single-player experience. Not only does this rule out co-op, but there also won’t be any Mercenaries mode, which has been a staple of the franchise since Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.

Resident Evil 7 is not supporting any online modes. So for example, with Resident Evil 5, we focused on cooperative online play, which was well-received. But the key concept of Resident Evil 7 is horror, so from the very beginning, we thought that playing alone will give the best horror experience,” he explained.

Resident Evil 7 demo will receive another update

Pleasingly, he did confirm that the demo will be updated again, although we don’t currently know when this will be rolled out.

We do plan to update the demo on PSN for the players to experience the other aspects of the game. We don’t have a fixed date [for the release], but it will definitely be out before the game comes out.”

Resident Evil 7 is scheduled for release on PS4, PC, and Xbox One on January 24, 2017. The game will also be fully compatible from start to finish with PlayStation VR, a feature that will remain exclusive to Sony’s console for approximately 12 months.

Set some years after the events of Resident Evil 6, this latest entry in the venerated horror series takes place on a mysterious plantation mansion in Louisiana, where players control newcomer Ethan as he searches for his missing wife. However, he soon finds himself battling for his life as he encounters the malevolent Baker family and a host of other blood-thirsty creatures.

I know RE6 gets a lot of hate, but I thought making all the campaigns in that co-op (splitscreen too!) was a great move, it was lots of fun to play through with a friend. So it`s kinda disappointing they won`t be continuing that.

That. I had a lot of fun in coop on RE5 and RE6.

I still think it's good that developpers start focusing again on solo only games instead of trying to make a meh competitive multiplayer that sucks compared to games that focus on that alone.

I loved RE5 and 6 for the coop feature which also made my gf really into gaming too. We've now become very disappointed with each new news we hear about RE7. The game just sounds less and less appealing. But im sure there are many that love the new gameplay/style.

RE5 and 6 were the best coop games I've played.

Although It's not going to be much my cuppa. I want to see what it looks like with Vive and OR after the 12 month contract dries up.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.

Thank God for that!

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

Well, then this game is certainly not for you.Me and Im certaon alot of people are extremely happy that they are returning to the roots, what RE should have always been.

From what I've played from the demos and have seen I wouldn't say RE7 is returning to the roots, still feels like a different game with the RE title slapped on.

Hopefully the RE2 remake can bring it back to its roots/keep its roots.

Eh, I had some fun with Resident Evil 5 Co-op but I won't lose any sleep over this.
