I charged my move controllers the other day after not having used or charged them in about 5 years, they work just fine.

I have a couple of Moves and a nav controller but I haven't touched them in forever. I've been hearing that if you don't charge them regularly, they quit working. Sucks if that's true. |
I started using them this year again for Just Dance, they still work fine after years of non use.
First impressions: Amazing! It's exceeding all my expectations so far. I've only tried DriveClub VR so far, just put it down to get a different controller. It's so good, don't care to try anything else yet. First I through why am I staring at my car sideways, how do I change my viewpoint, get centered behind the wheel. Duh, just turn or move :) (There's a reset viewpoint button too) Awesome to look around, inspect the car anywhere. I didn't even bother to grab a chair, standing like an idiot in the middle of the living room with my head sticking into a car :) Very smooth experience.
Minor nitpicks, my Senhauser headphones do fit over the headset yet it's not ideal. Resolution for anything near is fine but the distance is pretty blurry, can't read the signs until you're close. Same with the speedometer in the car. Ofcourse you can always lean to it. So cool to check the mirror in VR and it feels instantly natural. I've tried to drive with headtracking before on a screen, that never really work. With psvr, just look out the side window, no trouble staying on the road.
There is a small gap on the bottom where light can get in, however it's not affecting the experience in full daylight. It's actually kinda useful as I can look down and see where the table etc is without having to (re)move the whole thing.
Another nitpick, going back to the ps menu with Driveclub still running makes the UI a bit laggy (it's downloading stuff too, might affect it as well) not that nice in VR. Oherwise the UI works fine, it's a bit like standing close to a 100" tv.
Back to racing, 20 year wait is over, it's amazing. Driveclub VR is a standalone game btw, I'm starting back at lvl 1, slow cars first before I can test my tolerance for Hyper nausea.
HokageTenshi said: tried my demo disc, and overall experience were good to me, but not great since PSVR resolution really not in high quality level, more like playing games in 480p but with good graphic effects, can't expect too much from such affordable price, and will continue use it for games that are worth playing in VR
That is a perfect discription. It really does feel like very polished SD gaming in most cases. I am hoping PS4 Pro will bring up the IQ in games just a hair. For those that already own PS4s, the experience really great already, all I would want from PSVR is an image quality boost.
Dr.Vita said: Btw how can you dare to buy Playstation VR at launch without RIGS? :o
Cool your jets. I have Rigs, I just have not got to it yet. I feel like I will get hooked on it, so I want to try out the other games before I get locked in on there.
d21lewis said: Can you use it to watch 360 degree 3d videos? I won't be home until tomorrow and I doubt I'll be able to find one. :( Luckily, I live in an area that was hit by hurricane Matthew so maybe people have better things to spend their money on right now. Wish me luck!
Yes, you can watch 360 degree VR videos. There are a couple for download, and there are a couple of video streaming apps available for free. However, so far I have been a little let down. Even Invasion which was downloaded and playing from the hard drive had some bad image quality for things in the distance. For some reason text in near impossible to read if it is not very near the front of the screen, and no amount of adjustment has been able to fix that thus far.
Hopefully, it is patched, or somebody can tell me I am a massive fool, and there is something I am missing.
d21lewis said: I'm surprised that they're readily available online for purchase. I'm gonna try to buy one from a store so I have one tomorrow. If not, I already have one ready for checkout on Amazon and Gamestop. One last question that I haven't seen in online reviews: How do regular ps4 games and movies look? Does it improve the experience?
Regular games and movies look pretty good. It is 1080p stretched out, so it won't look as clear as your TV, but it is really cool. I tried Uncharted 4, and it really brings out the details in things, and again shows just how stupidly obssesive Naughty Dog is. The only isue I had here is running around in U4 can be uneasy. I have not felt my stomach turn in any of the VR titles so far, but that was intense. I can't even imagine what Call of Duty would feel like with the rediculous speed the players move at.
I don't think I will use it a lot since I have a 75in Z9D, and a PS4 Pro on the way. But for those with smaller TV's or diferent situations, I can see it being a viable option to get the big screen experience. It may actually be quite good with super sampling, and higher frame rates on the Pro.

Of course today of all days we had our belated (Canadian) thanksgiving gathering, thus no more impressions beyond Driveclub VR.
As for image quality, this is what you get when taking a screenshot in game

Ofcourse it all looks perfectly straight in the headset with the illusion of more detail because of the stereographic view. Watching a plastic bag fly by looks surprisingly good. Not everything in DC is made for 3D though. If you look sideways at the railing on a bridge for example, it looks like a 2D texture that scrolls backwards at high speed revealing the 60fps update of the game. Yet sticking your head out (through) the window while driving is pretty epic lol.
I had to make room to install the demo disc, 40GB! It's not a demo disc, install disc... There's lots on it to try out a bit later tonight. Need to make some more room to install Rigs.
Anyone downloaded "Playstation VR Experiences" under the TV & Video section? What is it and is it any good?
good thing i dont have a big head, i didnt even have to adjust my headset when i got it, it just slipped on lol

I didn't realize that was a thing... I'll download it when I get home.
Bet with Adamblaziken:
I bet that on launch the Nintendo Switch will have no built in in-game voice chat. He bets that it will. The winner gets six months of avatar control over the other user.
I'll tell you this much. my first impression is that the Canadian price is insane. $699 for the bundle at Best Buy. I mean, everything is bad up here now, but seeing this is kind of a turn off. I'll be dropping I'm guessing $550 for the Pro, so PSVR is a no go for now. http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/playstation-4-playstation-vr-launch-bundle-3001559/10417949.aspx

That is crazy. That's $40 more than the exchange rate. It is crazy how bad things have gotten in Canada in just the last three years, I mean at PS4 launch it was basically dollar for dollar the same.
Honestly, now that I have VR, and have already expeirnced 4K on freinds PCs, I would get PS4 over the Pro if I had to choose. If you already have a PS4, the Pro is not going to give you any better experiences, just prettier ones. The PSVR on the other hand, is going to give you access to hundreds of titles that will not be available over the next year on Pro alone, and it will greatly enhance your expeirence in VR/Retro hybrid titles like Resident Evil and Gran Turismo Sport.

So, what's the reason for stuff to be so expensive in Canada? Still cheaper than Australia though as there's no bundle so that's $760 without the game.
