Melee or 64. Wii was kinda eh and the Wii U version just feels sterile and boring. The roster is great but Jesus, unless you like online or have people that LOVE SSB, the game gets old extremely fast. It is actually the biggest disappointment of the Gen for me

Smash WiiU/3DS  (mostly WiiU) is catering to the competitive/melee fan club.

It gets old I agree but for me the biggest downer was the single player mode or the lacking of fun in it.

Melee's classic/adventure combo was fantastic. Brawl's subspace story was awesome.

The WiiU game feels more like the original smash but with Melee's competitiveness and Brawl's design and mechanics (minus a few and plus others) - all without a decent SP mode imo.

I don't see why they couldn't keep the mechanics and add the story mode. Pretty sure everyone would prefer story mode over a dumb board game

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

SSE was highly divisive. You can't be too sure about that.

Probably Wii U, solely for the content.

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Smash Wii U by far. Still playing it every day.

Melee, of course.

Possibly because they wanted to rush it out maybe, who knows.

The only reason why Sakurai said is because of the "cutscenes".

I'd rather have them add a SP mode than making a downgraded mess that is Smash bros 3DS.

Having a story/SP mode makes people be divisive? Why?

Not having a SSE-like mode most likely had nothing to do with rushing the game release. It is not like Sora was the only studio working on the title, afterall. The game was delayed twice (for WiiU) so that is likely not the reason. The more likely reason why is probably because they did not want to make the WiiU version too drastically different from the 3DS version. That or size limitations. SSE was demanding in disk space considering all the other content that goes into a Smash game (it was reportedly the reason Smash Bros. Brawl was dual layered). Also, we should consider technical limitations; deciding on the 60fps/1080p meant that trying to make a SSE type mode may not work with those benchmarks or that drastic compromises would have to be made which exploited Wii U in a negative manner.

A lot of people did not like SSE. I do not believe it had any impact on Sakurai's decision making as it was reportedly decided before pre-planning that there would not be a sequel to SSE in Smash 4. With that said, there were many within the vocal community that did not even want to play through SSE. It was OK, but most definitely not something the community came close to unanimously agreeing upon. There were so many people that thought of it as a waste of time and without any voiceovers, the storytelling became convoluted. Therefore, SSE was too limited to be engrossing. Honestly, most of the voal community's issues would likely never be addressed in a new version of SSE since Nintendo does not like most of their characters to speak which would again limit the way the story would unfold. Also, there were sections that gamers just found unfun.

Personally, I miss coin launcher.

I think Smash 4 is the best for the competetive fighting scene. I think the Smash community is really blowing their chance (2-stock instead of 3-stock in singles is garbage as fuck) with this title but Smash 4 is the best and most balanced title in the franchise (about 25 or so characters can legitimately make deep runs at Nationals). I am growing too old for the Smash community and their ways but as far as the best title in the franchise is concerned (and I only think about it from a competetive aspect), Smash 4 is a high point that I doubt a new Smash title could top.

SSE was a huge part of the budget of Brawl. Some people felt like it was a waste of money. Some people felt the effort could have gone to different things, like a better netcode.

Smash WiiU probably, though Melee is a close 2nd place. The gameplay of Melee is still amazing nowadays, but Smash WiiU edges it due to all the content it has!

The majority seem to be choosing Sm4sh wii U but no one has mentioned these guys.

Cool! I didn't know I could quote myself. I feel dirty in a good way now.

What Sm4sh Wii U really needed wasn't a SSE mode but an online mode for the amiibo. You can use spectator mode now and bet coins on PvP fights. Makes more sense if I train amiibo and bet coins on their online fights. Just make it so you can't bet against your own amiibo, otherwise you could make it "take a dive." and get coin rich.

Hey! They got SONY on my amiibo! Wait a minute. Two great gaming tastes that game great together!

Only one I liked was Brawl, the rest are far too simplistic/basic.
