Forums - Microsoft - Gears Of War 4 Review Thread - 85 MC

84 is really really good IMO, particularly for an old franchise. Even Nintendo struggle to produce >80 rated games nowadays.

Deserves the scores if not a bit lower. The game is rushed, and missing so much of the content that made three great. Hopefully now the engine and mechanics are already there they can make five great again.

Missing some content? Perhaps. "Rushed"? I disagree. The game is well made and very polished (on both platforms). Smoother than any previous Gears release.

It works well I'll give it that. When I say rushed It just feels like it was put together quickly via a template, gears by numbers so to speak. The maps for multiplayer are quite boring but do the job, the swarm are a step back from the locust and lacking variety.

I do like dodgeball and arms race though. Solid game modes

What content is it missing? Arcade campaign mode and overrun are pretty much all I can think of. And we need more maps.

edit. oh and four player co-op is missing too.

This game should of scored way higher. The campaign is fantastic, Hooks you in and even though it's classic gears, The story telling is great.

84 is good, XB1 as had a couple of good games in the last month especially Forza Horizon 3. That series as improved with every release.

I played it for like 15 mins before I went to sleep last night and actually dreamed about it all night long. I dreamed that it sucked!

I woke up this morning and played another 30 minutes. I like what I see. Can't play it again until the weekend but I'm looking forward to the campaign.

I guess we can look at it from the angle that it scored better than the previous game, Judgment, so it isn't that bad after all since it's progressive from that perspective.

I'm looking at it from the angle that reviewers have been all over the place lately. The game is progressive from many perspectives, the story is more fleshed out and deeper, pacing of the action is better and feels more intense than ever, multiplayer balancing has improved alot etc. It should be a 90+ game but what can you do? Millions of gamers will enjoy it and that's what matters :)

I'm surprised it's hovering around 84. As I was playing it, I thought this is the kind of game critics will love. It has a great single-player campaign, it's technically impressive, and it has huge replay value in online and offline versus multiplayer and Horde.

It manages to retain the spirit and formula of the original while adding new mechanics, enemies, and weapons that add new spice to the proceedings. The only real flaws I see are the boring first act and some annoying dialog.
