All of MS's releases are playable with less than a 970 or a 390, those cards give performance and graphics well above X1 is doing. If you're going to skip a game completely because the optimization isn't exactly where you want, then you probably didn't care about the game to begin with. Waiting for price cuts its fine, especially when you consider most games tend to get better months after release. |
They are certainly playable and there is no denying that. Its just not what I would call good optimization. Its 2016, we shouldn't just expect a game to be "playable" and give it a pass imo. And there have been several cases with several titles from MS where 970 and/or 390 had issues keeping up with a smooth 60fps at 1080p. Forza Horizon 3 for example. Fps can go down once a while sure, but it shouldn't go down that frequently.
I skip games generally cause if they aren't up to snuff by launch, by the time they are, a new game comes out that peaks my interest instead and its better optimized or exclusive to blah platform. Since I can't play two games at once, I just go with the better optimized one or exclusive.
True dat.

I don't think optimization needs to be ideal for a port to be considered, "good." As long as its playable product on reasoanble specs with better graphics, I don't think there needs to be so much complaining.
You can argue FH3 isn't where it should be on a 970 or 390, but its gonna look and play better than the X1 version. So lets not pretend those specs are just giving X1 visuals and performance.
If that game only intrigued becuase it was new... well I don't have a response to that. Just go playing something else and I look forward to inevitably seeing you in other threads just to complain about performance in new games. That will never get old...

I will make a definition, a good PC port is one that works with little or no crashing. As long as its PLAYABLE with reasonable specs, its good. Anywho, all of MS's releases have been improved post release so if you don't like where they are at launch just wait. We are at a point where almost every game gets significant patches post launch, console or PC.
OT: The game looks great. Curious to see how it reviews. |
We'll remember the eight as the "patch generation"...

I think it does. We do have quite a few other words that can be used for "playable" like Acceptable but not ideal optimization or Minimal optimization. Good optimization while cards that are more than twice as powerful struggling to only hit 60fps at 1080p doesn't sound good to me.
Does it though?
TL:DR 390 goes below 30 fps and in order to get the 30fps lock that the x1 has, they had to turn down the AA settings to below (0x) what the x1 had (4x). And the 970 isn't exactly performing well either. Both the x1 and PCs are running at 1080p Native.
And well, complaining is what I do when I have a game that isn't very well optimized to my standards and no new games/exclusives came out that interest me. And I do/will complain until they fix this stuff and I will praise when they do. If I order a pizza and its cold, wouldn't I complain about that? I would bitch until they either gave me a fresh one or a refund.

Indeed, I like the games we've seen this gen but it gets better if you just wait for patches.

I didn't say FH3 is where it should be, but is it perfectly playable on 390? Absolutely, even with settings above X1. It will get patched as well.
I think what I'm trying to say is... we don't care about your cold pizza. Have you praised MS for improving the performance in their PC releases? I only see complaining.

Now you are just moving goal posts. What you said was
"You can argue FH3 isn't where it should be on a 970 or 390, but its gonna look and play better than the X1 version. So lets not pretend those specs are just giving X1 visuals and performance."
It does not look and play better than the x1 if they have to turn down the settings below what the x1 has in order to make it perform like the x1.
If you don't care, great! Ignore my posts since no one is forcing you to read them or reply to them but as long as they are on topic, I will complain. If they aren't, the mods will take care of that. And I have praised MS for improving the performance on their PC releases, just look at the first reply of this thread.

The X1 version isn't at par to those PC settings on highest. Textures, shadows, reflections, draw distance and other settings are higher in that video compared to what X1 is doing.
Unless he turns those down and locks it to 30 fps, its not equal to X1.
