What match are you excited for at WWE Payback 2017?

Neville vs. Austin Aries ... 1 5.88%

Randy Orton vs. Bray Wyat... 3 17.65%

The Hardy Boyz vs. Cesaro... 3 17.65%

Kevin Owens vs. Chris Jer... 4 23.53%

Bayley vs. Alexa Bliss (Raw Women's Title) 3 17.65%

Seth Rollins vs. Samoa Joe 1 5.88%

Roman Reigns vs. Braun Strowman 2 11.76%

Total:17

And in a surprise to noone, AJ Lee is back. That's the problem with logical booking, it lacks the surprise factor. Regardless it's great to see my celebrity crush back. I didn't realize how young AJ was when she left, so hopefully she still has a nice little run left in her.

I imagine she will return at the poorly named wrestlepalooza. Thus far it looks like

Lesnar vs CM Punk
Iyo Sky vs Stephanie Vaquer
CM Punk and AJ Lee vs Seth Rollins and Becky Lunch.

Already a pretty solid card.

Moments like that are what pro wrestling is all about and makes it the coolest thing in the world.

Welcome back, AJ Lee!

How many people on the roster do you think grew up watching and idolizing this woman? AJ Lee is to them what Trish/Lita/Chyna was for many of us. And there's a video WWE just posted of her signing her new contract, so this may not just be a one off.
She's going to have a nostalgia run for the records.

Wasnt one of the reasons (alongside with what happened to CM Punk) she left because of her neck?

I wonder if they'll play it safe like what they did with Steve Austin couple or so years ago with KO.

Edit: Just saw the video, since I missed watching it last night lol

Damn she looks in great shape!

AJ Lee was my most wanted return on WWE ever since she left and the fact that she FINALLY came back after 10 long years is so surreal to me and i’m super happy and excited for her comeback and i can’t wait to see who will be her next opponents in her new run after Becky Lynch.

That's one of the great things about wrestling. It's not like Michael Jordan is going to come back to the Bulls in game seven of the finals. But in wrestling, that kind of thing can happen in wrestling.

Yes, that was the official stated reason. But of course, we've seen lots of people come up back from supposedly career ending injuries. Edge/Cope, Danielson, Shawn Michaels (although that one is a bit dodgy imho), Paige, Christian, and Austin... sort of.

I kind of expect that this is a bit of a different situation than Austin. Austin was closer to 60 than 50 at that point, so even without the injury history, so even if he had not had the injury history, it would have still taken a lot of smoke and mirrors to make his match work. I get the feeling AJ Lee's comeback will be more akin to Edge's WWE run. I think she'll be an active wrestler but kind of a special attraction.

But even if she never wrestles again, I'm still hyped. Her success was more due to her character than her ring work, and she can definitely contribute in a non-wrestling role.

So, what are your top 3 or however many you want to list returns?

For me Bray Wyatt's is especially memorable because I was there. But in hindsight it's kind of more sad than anything.

CM Punk's returns were both great. I probably prefer the WWE one because that's the promotion I watch regularly and it was something that felt impossible instead of merely unlikely.

Daniel Bryan's was great because he just seems to genuinely love wrestling so much. It was hard not to be happy for him to be able to do what he loved doing.

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan for sure were great

For me - CM Punk's return to WWE was great (#1( but also...

The Rock returning to WWE (#2) after 7 years in 2011

Chris Jericho's Return (#3) to WWE back in 2007 with the Code Breaker persona

Man booking Tiffany vs Jade Cargill was not a good idea. Jade still isn't good and Tiffany isn't good enough where she could help her.

Stephanie Vaquer and Iyo Sky put on a mighty fine match. Worth going out of your way to see if you didn't. The rest of the show was honestly kind of meh to this point.

AJ Lee's match is next which is an interesting order. You think they would want to end with a big moment. AJ Lee winning her return match would have been a great way to end things. But if that's not what they're ending on... what will it be? Drew wins? Someone returns?

Edit: Well, shows what I know. They just ended on Cody winning. Cody vs Drew was a very very typical WWE style match, so at least anyone who was tuning in for the first time will have an accurate understanding of what to expect. I was wondering if Cody would be getting booed here, but it seems like that was just a Cena thing.

Overall, a decent PPV. Iyo Sky and Stephanie Vaquer was a great wrestling match, and AJ Lee's return match was a great sports entertainment match. The other two matches were kind of meh. This was a good WWE B PPV, but the way they kept hyping the historicity of this thing, including lots of self congratulations during the event itself, I was kind of hoping for a bit more.
