The band I was obsessed with as a teen, Linkin Park, in the 2000s has returned with a new female lead singer. I know not every fan of LP is into this, but I like what I've heard so far.

That's the singer from Dead Sara, IMO the best cover of Heart Shaped Box (a song about Courtney Love's... box). Speaking of Courtney Love, the singer was featured on the Courtney Love album Nobody's Daughter. But here's the Heart Shaped Box cover:

Basically a 20 year wait on this completion to the epic Time duo of albums. Wintersun was a main bridge into the more extreme melodic metal I'd get into as a teenager and haven't looked back even in my late 30s. Almost worth the wait XD

Was always a fan of LP. Quite liked most of their stuff.

She's decent, and does quite a good job of mimicking Chester's voice, but she doesn't have the feel and power that Chester had. Not even close. You can really hear it in any of the covers (are they considered LP covers with her singing in the band?). She can't let it rip like he could and it doesn't come off as genuine emotion from her to the audience where as with Chester it did.

This is the kind of thing that could have worked for me if she was original to the band (whether or not Chester replaced her later), but her trying to replace Chester now just can't cut it. Anyone getting close to Chester would be extremely difficult.

I don't hate the new direction, but I feel the shoes are just too big to fill. This new song is catchy and has a strong message, so I do like it, but expecting Chester's voice and hearing hers just automatically makes me think the song isn't living up to what it should be, even though it can't be, because it simply is what it is. Chester's gone and that's it.

Dunno if I can ever really get into it again in a manner where I'm truly enjoying it by feeling it, but time will tell.

These guys are pretty clever with their lyrics. Talk about being right on the nose.

I think both songs so far are decent. Not fantastic, but not terrible. Acceptable enough songs so far.

Based on these first two songs released, I can't help but wonder if they are connected and are about the new band vs the existing/older fans/haters.

"Gave up who I am for who you wanted me to be". Is this about Emily becoming the new singer, trying to look and sing like Chester? Talking about cutting her up and making her bleed, and wondering why she's expecting the fans/haters to just accept her when the internet and social media is so toxic these days?

"It's been decided how we lose, because there's a fire under the altar." Things are so toxic now, no matter what LP does, the haters will try and bring down the new band, no matter what. Only men are allowed to be priests in most cases, and she's a woman, so she can't lead the band because of 'doctrine'.

She wants to be part of "something", LP that is, but knows the fans are going to try and tear her and them down with this new direction.

"This is what you asked for, heavy is the crown". The fans/haters are giving Emily beef for trying to replace Chester and not living up to him, the 'King'.

"You can't win if your white flags out when the war begins". "Trying to catch fire but feeling so cold". Did LP seriously anticipate the backlash, and write the entire album, as a preemptive strike against the fans who would be haters, beforehand, to get ahead of the "emptiness machine"?

"Today is gunna be the day you notice, because I'm tired of explaining what the joke is". The joke is on the haters, because LP got ahead of the hate by writing the album about knowing to expect some of the fan/hater backlash they'd have to deal with because of the new singer?

"There's no turning back from this path once it's begun." "Blaming that sword when the pen won't miss, watch it all fallin apart like this." LP has chosen a new direction and the haters won't like it, but LP is confident their new band through it's lyrics will prevail. Either that or the haters are basically telling LP you've made your grave and we're going to fill it with words of hatred.

"This is what you asked for." A really long vocal scream from Emily, very similar to what Chester would do, trying to give the fans/haters what they want, by basically saying, 'what else do you want, what more could you ask for'?

I'm going to be absolutely stunned if the entire album is kinda a big preemptive FU to the haters of the new band. On one hand, it would be pure genius, writing an album like that ahead of time to deal with what might otherwise end the new bands future before it ever get's started. On the other hand, it would also seem quite manipulative, because for the haters, it would be tough to deny that someone standing their ground is hard not to respect, and even more so if they've called you out before it even started because you're so predictable when it comes to your online hate. So even if the new band and album weren't really that great, it would be harder to hate on it if it's aimed at the haters to begin with.
