Forums - Gaming - Some IGN guy thinks Xbox One S competes with Ps4 Pro and Scorpio is a different league, Lmao!

It does, Scorpio is another level beyond Sony's reach.

This. Xbox Scorpio is in another league right now compare to pro. We aren't just talking just about the GPU, but CPU and ram as well. PS4 pro still uses the same CPU as the regular PS4 which is already weaker than xbox one. Not to mention it will be easier for devs to take full advantage of the Xbox Scorpio since Microsoft API is easily scalable. Don't believe me, just look at PC gaming. Thanks to direct x you can change the settings to 4k/high ultra settings to 1080p/ low settings by changing the settings in the menu. Microsoft will probably release a console every three years and guarantee each console a 6-7 year life span.

Oh, did MS release a spec sheet that actually states they are using a much better CPU?  Much more RAM?  Nope?  Didn't think so.  But, by all means continuing believing what you wish.

I wonder how powerful the Scorpio is going to be next year in people's minds, before the actual specs get revealed. I've already read up to 10tf, 12GB hbm ram, Zen CPU, 4tb sshd. Definitely not going to buy a slim now with that powerhouse coming out next year for 399 :) For example http://www.tweaktown.com/news/51972/new-xbox-5-times-more-powerful-ps4-neo-rocks-10-tflops/index.html

So much this.  Not sure why they think the Scorpio is going to be so powerful when it's going to be exactly the same strategy as the Pro.  The ONLY exclusives MS said they will allow on it is VR games, cause the OG XBO can not run them.  Why waste those specs on a current gen upgrade, when it would have to be sold for AT LEAST $599?  Going to laugh my ass off if it's basically a XBO S, but with a 6 Tflops GPU and even more overclocked CPU.

N4G comment section is full of Ponys claiming Scorpio competes with PS5, not the Pro, because they know the Scorpio will easily outperform the Pro.

Oh, it's going to be competing against both.  That's the disadvantage of launching that late in the gen.  Sure, you can be more powerful, but you're also going to be going against your competitor's follow up, one that's going to blow your mid-gen upgrade out of the water, and is going to be announced only 1-1 1/2 years after you launch.  One that we will start hearing rumblings of shortly after the Scorpio launches.  It also allows the Pro to get a foothold on that mid-gen upgrade market.  So, compete? Sure.  Win? Not so much.

First: I don't think the PS5 will be announced 2 years from now like you claim.

Second: If so, the PS5 will be outpowered by the next Xbox as well. It is a back and forth anyway. If you compare this generation, including the upgrades Xbox Scorpio is the most powerful machine you can buy. End of story.

Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Early 2019 announcement, with rumors starting to come out in 2018 (wouldn't be surprised if Sony pushed the leaks, either.)  That's what I'm predicting.

Don't you mean IF there is another Xbox?  If the Scorpio flounders and fails, do you expect them to come out with more HW or continue with their focus on Windows?  I expect the latter.  Still, if MS still comes out with another console, are they going to be ready to launch it that soon after the Scorpio?  It's possible, but I'd more expect them to launch 6 months-1 year after the PS5.  And even if it's more powerful, it won't matter.  A $399 PS5 is going to kill just as much as a $399 PS4 did. As much as a $399 Pro is doing.

While I do agree that that is often the case, the thing is that IGN (as far as I know) is still the worlds biggest gaming website (based on views and revenue it generates). I doubt that it would be a huge thing to ask to actually create content with people who actually have a fairly decent idea about where the industry stands and what are your average technical specs when it comes to gaming hardware. This is not a whole lot to ask, considering that your daily forum dweller will recite them in his/her sleep.

Subjectivity and taste  is a totally different thing altogether (and every news caster might have his), but in the context the guy is speaking is ignorant at best and seriously missinforming at worst. If they consider themselves a serious and professional game news outlet, they should act as one. Just my 2 cents.

You took his bait.

Bait or not, my point is still valid. I really do not care for 12 year old "baiters" and the trend that was built around them.

From what we have been told there won't be another generation of Xbox however there will be a another Xbox machine. Xbox have there platform now and expect a Scorpio successor to compete with the PS5.

In other words think of Xbox as a PC in your living room. (Steam machine) it will be the only place to play Xbox and PC games. Wont offer anything else but power to play at higher settings. So what ever PS5 will be visually expect Scorpio 2 to beat it. In saying that we dont know what Sony is doing. PS5 might be a full fedged VR console not competing in power terms but with innovation.

So it depends if Sony go the Nintendo route with innovations or the PC route with Power. We know Xboxs route.

I know all the details known about the Scorpio so far. Until it's out, the only thing we can go with is the difference in theoretical peak performance based on it's revealed TFLOPS output. And that puts it in no different a ballpark from the PS4 Pro than the XBox One S is in relation to the regular PS4. a 40% difference is a 40% difference. The Scorpio will manage to hit a native 4k resolution in more games than the PS4 Pro (which will rarely hit it for AAA games). But that's the same with the PS4 vs XBox One, where the latter barely ever uses a 1080p frame buffer and relies more on upscaling or simply opt for a lower resolution like 900p, compared to the PS4 games that more often deliver native 1080p.

If the XBox One S and PS4 are in the same ballpark despite the power difference between both, then the same has to be said about the PS4 Pro and the Scorpio, since the power difference in both cases is the same.

There is a bigger difference between 1080p and 4k then 1080p and 900p first off. Second off 40% difference is different in this situation in terms of GPU. Imagine an ant that is 1 mm long and there is another ant that is 1.4 mm long. You can't tell the difference unless you get a magnifying glass and even then it isn't a big deal. Now if the ant is 1 yard long and the other is 1.4 yards long then you can tell the difference for sure. This is obviously a bit of an exageration, but shows as numbers get bigger than the difference between the two is not only bigger but more noticeable.

Nice analogy but it totally ignores the diminishing returns of technological advancement. You'll get a few more full 4k titles but it won't cover all.... Maybe just over 50% at 30fps.

On top of this, it will always be held back by the games that have to play on Xbox one particularly.

You've got to hand it to Sony's tech team. I really didn't expect 4K/HDR gaming to be here so quickly. As much as the press seem to be confused, Sony are in a fantastic position here.

Praise their tech team for what? 4K gaming has been on PC.

Oh snap, that console warz shade being tossed my way!

Too bad Sony didn't go that route. I don't even have my PS4 hooked up to my 4K set, so I can excuse the lack of a UHD player. But the hardware upgrade is just not enough.

Want a big upgrade? Wait for Ps5, Scorpio isn´t that of a much big upgrade either, 6tf for native 4K at very high is still not possible, not even Titan with 12TF manages in many games so let´s no go ahead of ourselves here.

lol, I don't need 4K at very high. If I cared about graphics that much I wouldn't waste time with consoles. With the $1200 I have spent on consoles this gen and the cost of the good gaming PC I built I could have built a monster PC.

I'm ok with native 4K gaming or even 1080p with much better framerates and other enhancements. If MS ends up putting the same dumb limitations on Scorpio versions of games as Sony is doing PS4P, then I won't waste money on it either.

Gamergen:

Gamergen impressions of XV Pro:
"What does FFXV PS4P bring to the table ? Well, in three words: it is MAGNIFICENT !
Between the demos we tested and gameplay videos we've seen so far, we can confirm, yes, this production will be much more flashy on the new Mister.S' hardware . Because the aliasing has almost disappeared and the clipping is better managed.
The environments are dense and alive, for once, the frame-rate (fps) seems to be constant when a number of decorative elements is displayed on the screen.
Optimization for a 4K picture, it brings several things. First, a sharpness in textures that literally explodes the retina. Everything is beautiful, everything is clean, it's breathtaking. Then the colors are dazzling and showy, in other words, it is masterful."

That is not a bad start and I'm sure the list will grow in the coming weeks and month. It's definitely worth getting a PS4pro.
