Forums - Nintendo - Miyamoto Says VR Is Not Quite The Right Fit For Mario

Several publications have had the chance to interview legendary video game developer Shigeru Miyamoto. One of these publications is USA Today who asked Mr. Miyamoto whether Mario was now ripe for virtual reality solutions seeing as he is coming to smart devices. The answer from Miyamoto was that virtual reality and Mario just wouldn’t mix

“I would agree that adapting Mario to new platforms is a key to keeping him relevant,” he said. “But we want families to play together, and virtual reality (which requires players to be closed off from the real world) doesn’t really fit well there. We also like people playing for a long time, and it’s hard to do that in VR.”

I agree that Mario and VR wouldn't fit too well together, but I'm sure there are other franchises that would. Metroid Prime VR anyone?

Xenoblade however COULD be amazing in VR.

Agreed :)

To keep people invested in any franchise, it's key to make the environment of which you play the games, very comfortable. Comfortable to the point that if you get lost in the game, you can enjoy being lost in it. I've played Oculus, I've tried the Vive and PSVR. While the games are novel, they aren't anything I can see myself in for hours on end. Good choice, VR is still very early.

Can't disagree with that statement cause idk how it would work with VR

VR is not quite right for any game not made in first person perspective.

Don't see Nintendo jumping on VR right now, not until it proves itself as a big market force.

The other problem and I've said this is it's simply not kid friendly enough and that's a huge problem for Nintendo.

Grown adults report feeling sick after playing VR, I think you'd have 70-90 pound kids straight up throwing up after wards in some cases, and that's not a good look.

Some would work, but I agree Mario VR probably wouldn't be good :p
