Isn't the PS4 Pro just another sign of that generationless market? Lol.

It's an enhancement much like the how older consoles like the N64 had a RAM expansion slot ...

Enhancement? Its nearly 2 times powerful, I would call it a bit more than that. Maybe a mid-gen upgrade, but even I doubt its that. I do believe that Sony will follow a similar path, though I could well be proven wrong.

Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

I think Sony, MS and Nintendo and going different paths. Sony will continue with generations but with mid gen upgrades. MS will keep releasing Xboxes with long term B.C. in mind and will try to make games compatible with as much systems as possible. As for Nintendo it seems they are going into a more portable approach with their games and hardware (if Eurogamers leaks are true).

It IS 2x powerful as far as compute power is concerned but Sony does not expect to deliver a paradigm shift in rendering technology much like in their transition from PS3 to PS4 when they were attempting physically based rendering at large ...

Lol, they called it PS4 Pro.  They want to make it obvious that it is still part of the PS4 family.  If they were going the same path, they would have name it PS Pro or PS Forever.

I think going forward, Sony will have the consoles B/C, as well.  It'll be much easier now that they are sticking with x86 architecture.

They also need to stick with AMD GPUs too for B/C so CPUs isn't the only thing factored when it comes to B/C ...

True, but given that it seems to be difficlut to work with Nvidia AND that they seem to want a premium, even when the console's GPU is getting old, I think Sony (and most likely MS) is sticking with AMD.

No because it's clearly a PS4 playing the same games.

My idiot self has come out again. Ignore what I've said before...

I still think we are leaning towards a generationless system. But not as black amd white as most take it. I see t more as having a lot of crossovers.

When the PS5 is released, and games released for it are also playable on the PS4p then that's pretty much a generation-less model.

The basis of my argument is this, as long as it's possible to run ps5 games on the PS4 in some form or capacity, then it would be done. And if it's done, then that's a generationless transition. Unless of course you all believe that it would just be impossible to run PS5 games on a PS4.....

And to that I'll ask this, can anyone show me a game on the PS4/XB1 that couldn't be made on the PS360? even if it meant dialing its IQ down, cutting back on objects and npcs and rez to 5NPCs

The reason why making games across generations is not done isn't really because they 7th gen consoles can't handle them (in some shape or form) but because the architectures are so different that it would be just too much work. But if the 9th gen consoles are also x86 based.... then there really is no reason why games can't be made across generations.

I think like others have said, that the generational lines will be very blurry at the least. It also seems very likely that a PS4 Pro 2 will come out at some point, probably in the switch from 14nm FinFET to 7nm FinFET around late 2018 or early 2019.

I could easily see PS4 Pro 2 and PSVR 2 releasing at the same time in the next couple of years.

Grnerations as we know them are a thing of the past, scalable platforms will be the way going forward.
