I feel like it's been a meltdown overall today, regarding the PS4 Pro and the Mario Runner game. It's been kinda an amusing day in the gaming world.

It's a bit strange. I have a 4k tv. Expected the feature. Wanted it. Yet don't give a **** in the end. I think the lower than expected price mitigated my feelings to a large degree. Of course......It will be at least $500 up here in Canadaland.

It is a bit strange ain't it, that the PS4S might possibly be just as expensive as PS4 on launch was in Canada. As for the Blu-ray thing, I really don't care, I don't buy blu-ray, I don't care for it.

Removing those capabilities is clearly not the reason of Ps4's success.

No, you're right. Not focusing on them and focusing on gaming was.

The day and hour when out of the blue, a 4K Blu-ray player became the most decisive factor for the choice of a gaming system.......

It is. That's when the prices started to really jump though. Right after the PS4 launch. At launch, it was the same cost as it was in the U.S. Then a few months later, it was jacked up by....$50 I think? But yes, strange days.

My only gripe with the PS4 Pro (because it affects me personally). I'm glad it's going to allow 4k streaming, but I will never use this feature. Unfortunately, I live in an area where Comcast has decided to put a monthly data cap on me. Being that 4k streaming content is a hog, (I also heard the compression makes it not look as good too) I need to stick to physical media for now.

Does Sony feel that UHD is a fad by not putting it in either new system says alot to me.

Ha yea, my internet right now caps me at 12 I think.

He was over fixing something recently and I asked him about it and he was like "oh you don't need more than that. You can have like 4 people watching netflix at once at 12 mb"

I didn't argue, but then I looked online at Netflix page to see if I wanted to upgrade for $2 a month for 4k and hdr content. They say on the site that you need 20 mb internet. I'm like, "well shit. No reason to upgrade then"

I'm actually capped at downloading 500gb a month. I know it sounds like a lot. But with these new systems and all the day 1 patches, and my preference for digital games. it eats up quick. not to mention when I watch tv it's only to stream Hulu, Amazon video, or Netflix. I only have basic cable to watch football. I've also noticed Comcast throttled speeds during the day. Damn I hate Comcast.

Lmao you cant make this stuff up.

It's a dumb move, plain and simple. A lot of people who will want to invest in a 4K-capable console and 4K TV will also want to be watching movies on Blu-ray in 4K. You either spend $500 to get everything you want by buying 2 devices (PS4Pro and a 4K player), or you buy one device next year probably for $400 and get both, with less clutter in your entertainment unit.

If I was seriously considering a technology upgrade to embrace 4K in movies and gaming I would be seriously considering a Scorpio and dropping Playstation for the first time ever. I've had my Uncharted and inFamous for the generation, and I'll get Horizon and play it on my og PS4. My most hyped game coming up is Mass Effect Andromeda and I can get that on Scorpio. Lucky for Sony I have no plans to go 4K within the next 5 years. So I'll be sticking with my og PS4. I may sell my og to my son and then make a sideways move to the slim. But that's a year or more away, at least.

Sony could release a PS4Pro next year at the time of Scorpio launch with 4K movie playback. But if that's an actual hardware tweak and not just firmware it'll piss off a lot of early PS4Pro adopters.

Are we going to see a PS4 180 on this?

Does anyone know whether the device is physically incapable of playing 4k Blu-Rays? Is there some scope for a software update if they agree to pay the licensing fees?

I think this will have a marginal effect on sales of the console.

But it certainly gives me pause. I want one device under my TV. Right now thats a PS4. I have access to an Xbox One at my brother's place down the road.

I was considering an upgrade to the Xbox One S.

My challenge is now this. I will be a day one Mass Effect player. The best version at this stage is likely to be a PS4 Pro. But it seems nonsensical to purchase a new device, touted as premium, that doesn't play the new format of media. I would literally be purchasing a playback device that doesn't use my television's features.

So am I better off waiting for Scorpio?

Decisions, decisions.
