Forums - Gaming - The Meltdown Over No 4K Blu Ray Player In The PS4 Pro

It probably would've jacked up the price. At the end of the day it is a video game console.

Want to play games in 4K? Buy a PS4Pro.

Want to watch movies in 4K? Buy a BR player that supports it.

what if i told you, bluray is going to be obsolete in the near future.

Redray is going to be the next big thing.

That means $700 minimum to get 4K games and movies on my TV.

Or I could just wait a year and probably get an XBox Scorpio that can run games better at 4K and can run 4K movies for probably $400.

Sony's value proposition here for 4K entertainment is not very good.

I have to agree 4K-BR feature was something that nobody ever questioned. I was first totally shocked, legit WTF-shocked but after sleeping over, I realized I don't watch anymore BRs or even DVDs. There is also the fact these 4K-BRs are really expensive so in the end this feature missing does not affect me personally at all. Though I can understand it is tough to swallow for other people and it will lead to some lost sales but I don't think it will be significant amount.

I cannot imagine toilet-free life.

Kebabs have a unique attribute compared to other consumables. To unlock this effect you need to wolf down a big ass kebab really fast, like under 10 minutes or so and wait for the effect to kick in. If done correctly your movements should feel unbelievably heavy to the point where you literally cannot move at all.

Thats up to you.

People complaining about framerate, graphics, resolution, memory etc. is the reason we are in this situation where console makers feel the need to upgrade their consoles more often instead of the usual 5-6 year console cycle. It takes focus off making their current console the best it can be and probably takes money away from making more games.

The value of the console is in it games, not movies. Games sell consoles, that include exclusives. I think this is a none issue for gamers in general, and If you gonna say, "But many many people bought a PS2/PS3 for dvd/bluray etc" Well guess what, many more bought it for the games.

I think it sucks it doesn't have a 4k bluray player, but I'm more than overjoyed with the games that is coming out exclusively for it.

Sorry i forgot, i buy my ps4 to play movies not to play games, silly me.

Personally, I'm not upset or anything, but it has made the PS4 pro go from a must buy to a 'buy when my current PS4 dies'. I don't have a 4k TV but the extra quality at 1080p is tempting, yet the future proofing of have a uhd Blu-ray player for when my TV eventually dies and I replace it with a 4k TV was the necessary pull to bring me across the purchasing line. Without it, I can wait.

Hopefully, Sony can release a PS4K pro that costs an extra 50 and comes with a uhd drive. I'd buy that.

its does not need to play them. its a gaming machine.

Sony learned their lesson last gen about attaching an expensive feature that within a year or 2 will be dirt cheap to buy separately.

PS3 needed the Bluray play to expand its install base, the PS4Pro already has an install base. It does not need it.

add me, the more the merrier.

Not that anyone is asking but the last time I bought a movie in physical disc form was the extended edition of the The Return of the King back in 2004. 12 years ago. Just saying.
