They've said the following in a blog post titled "No Future for AM2R".

Nintendo of America, Inc. has filed a takedown request under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA). I received the request on my         personal email, so I'm complying with their requests.

There will be no more AM2R updates, and no more releases under any platform.

Thank you for the support during all these years."

I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. What a shame, AM2R is probably the game I had the most fun with this year!

It's their IP afterall so not surprising.

When you think about Metroid you should think in Federation Force, not a better game as AM2R.

It's making Nintendo looks even worse.

Makes sense. Quite a shame tho.

Everyone who wanted to play it has played it by now, so I don't really care. It is their IP after all. And a remake above all things...

You know what would even be more awesome? If Nintendo would make a Metroid game at least half as good as AM2R.

They should try and make their own game instead.

Another case of fan games getting hit after mass media popularity gain.

Can't those media just leave fan games alone? Do they know their reporting essentially tell Nintendo 'This game must be taken down'?

There goes my hopes of a Mac port. That sucks.
