I think they've tried everything with the 3DS ... small ... big ... even non 3D 3DS (lol) ... expensive ... mid-priced ... dirt cheap.

The world has changed into a smart device world ... I think Nintendo making a "smart Nintendo" platform that maybe can run Android apps (which Nintendo can then make money off of rather than Apple or Google getting all that money) in this environment makes as much sense as anything.

I'm not saying this will work ... it could easily fail. So could doing the same thing as they have been the last 5-6 years. For Nintendo there's no easy answers.

That kinda happens when you make a string of stupid decisions on your console side for 20 years straight too. Aside from the Wiimote gamble, which paid off huge for a few years (mind you this is also an idea that Nintendo didn't invent, they bought the concept from an American guy who tried to sell it to Sony/MS first, and even then many Nintendo execs were against buying the tech, lol), the haven't been able to make a console without several huge errors since the Super NES.

So, the one time in 20 years the portable division could use some help from the console side, and the console side is home, drunk, passed out and having pissed its pants.

That is the dream. If NX can also have a playstore as well as a eshop or whatever, would be craycray.

They only need the eShop. They can just have an "Apps" area inside the eShop (next to Virtual Console and what not) and have kids download their apps there. I think they probably should just change the name to the "Nintendo Store" or "NX-Shop" or whatever too.

Nintendo takes a 30% cut, so even if traditional third parties back stab them and bail out again ... they'll still be collecting continous royalties on all those smartphone games and apps that kids download on the NX.

I should note, that none of this particularily interests me as a 30+ year old Nintendo fan from the 80s ... but I can understand the logic with kids being the way they are these days. Actually there probably are 4-5 smartphone games I wouldn't mind playing with physical controls. But that's about it.

Yea but with the play store, they can have millions of apps and games right from the start. It will make the device a lot more compeling to a lot more people. They also won't have to worry about devs not supporting the NX cause if the devs make a game for the play store, it will work for NX. I doubt mobile companies have very much interest on Nintendo/PSN platforms but this will guarantee the support.

If my kid wants a device with candy crush and blah device doesn't have it, I wouldn't buy it if I was a casual parent. If they want to go after the mobile crowd, they have to go in full force and not half ass it. We have seen how important apps are to a ecosystem.

We'll know if the Eurogamer rumor and all rumors piggybacking off it are true or fake before the end of this month so I'll just wait til then. Either Nintendo reveals NX to be the same or different from rumors, or they don't reveal NX this month meaning Eurogamer is false.

My guess is Nintendo will probably control a flow of Android apps so as to not overflood things and give their full price games a bit more of a chance.

Still it should be easy enough to allow the top 30 gaming apps and the top 30 social media/functionality apps.

did you just assume my gender?

I assume everyone with a girl as their avatar is a girl.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
