I still honestly personally like it better than the Wii.

Mario Kart 8 was better than Mario Kart Wii.

Smash U was better than Smash Brawl.

NSMBU was better than NSMB Wii.

DKC: TF was better than DKC Returns.

Plus going to HD was a large, tangiable jump, Wii was just a GameCube with a different controller a lot of (mostly mediocre) mini-game/shovelware titles.

Wouldn't surprise me if Breath of the Wild is better than both Skyward Sword and Twilight Princess (which is really a GameCube game).

Plus there was a surprising amount of new things on the Wii U ... Mario Maker, Splatoon, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta, Captain Toad, Wonderful 101, LEGO City.

Wii brought back Punch-Out!, Sin & Punishment, and Excite!, but Wii U brought back Pikmin, Yoshi, and Star Fox.

Even in third party support, I'd say Zombi U, Rayman, Call of Duty: BLOPS2, Batman: Arkham City, Assassin's Creed 3/IV, Watch Dogs, Deus Ex, Tekken Tag, Need For Speed, are just from a *quality* standpoint as good if not better than the best Wii third party games. 100 million units doesn't mean a whole lot when it doesn't translate to better content for the player.

Don't get me wrong, I have several big issues with the system and Nintendo made a lot of stupid decisions with it, but honestly I think I enjoyed it more than Wii. The main things that really blew me away on Wii were the two Galaxy games and Xenoblade I guess ...? But Mario 3D World, Splatoon, and Mario Kart 8 more than hold their own with that trio.

I feel the opposite, that Wii was a lot better than Wii U.

The Galaxy games destroy 3D World, it had a proper, high quality Metroid in Prime 3, Xenoblade 1 was better than X, it had two great Zeldas, (one of which was available at launch) and it was still getting the likes of Monster Hunter Tri, Goldeneye 007, Sonic Colours/Racing, Call of Duty, etc in its fourth year, whereas Wii U's third party support was nonexistent after the first 12 months.

At this point I've bought pretty much everything I'm interested in for both consoles, (excepting Breath of the Wild and Yooka Laylee on Wii U, if they even end up releasing on the system) and my Wii collection is far larger than my Wii U one.

To be honest I don't think either was *that* great.

I won't miss the "Wii" era at all (Wii + Wii U), if Mario Galaxy 1/2 weren't as great as it was, IMO Wii would've been a giant stinker for me. I think the 2nd half of 3D World is basically Mario Galaxy 3 anyway.

I expect more from NX, or Nintendo is toast. There's no soccer mom-miracle controller that will allow people to gloss over droughts and software deficiencies (and even the Wii had that in spades).

While I do hope Nintendo does better than either of them for NX, (I certainly won't be buying one if they continue the way they've been going this gen) I ultimately didn't feel cheated by the Wii the way I kinda did with Wii U.

You might feel differently if you cut the last two years off the Wii's support though as well (bye bye Xenoblade and Skyward Sword for starters).

Utimately I got what I wanted from the Wii. I thought motion contolled swordplay would be awesome, I got that with Red Steel 2, Skyward Sword, and Wii Sports Resort. I thought pointer-controlled shooting would be awesome, and I got just that with Metroid Prime 3, Medal of Honor, Goldeneye, COD, etc. I wanted Nintendo games that were a return to the SNES/N64 glory days instead of the weird experimental stuff on Gamecube, and I got that with Twilight Princess, Mario Galaxy 1 & 2, DKCR, Prime 3, etc.

With Wii U, I wanted an epic, instant-classic 3D Mario, I wanted a Zelda within a reasonable timespan, (certainly before the system was replaced) I wanted something ambitious from Retro Studios, and I didn't get those things.

Thats not fair to say at all. Compared to Sony and MS, Nintendo has released way more games for the WiiU than they have on PS4 and XB1. They also have the 3DS to think about.

PS4 has quite many AAA exclusives and is still getting many more. Wii U has few AAA exclusives and is getting just one more that is also coming to NX. Also PS4 and XB1 get many high quality third party games.

PS3 also didn't sell well in its early years and still has an amazing library of games.

The interesting thing is that even if we believe ps4 has many more AAA exclusives than Wii U (not sure if it is real or not) not many of those are rated above 3D World, an unambitious Mario game...

Proud to be the first cool Nintendo fan ever

Number ONE Zelda fan in the Universe

DKCTF didn't move consoles

Prediction: No Zelda HD for Wii U, quietly moved to the succesor

Predictions for Nintendo NX and Mobile

Pointer controls were good, but Nintendo didn't bother to get any of the great FPS games or make one themselves (like GoldenEye N64). Red Steel 2 was what the first should've been and then RS2 should've been a good deal better than that.

The problem with the sword control stuff on Wii is the controller (even with WM+) can't register depth, which means it only picks up on the angle, but nothing else ... it didn't really control 1:1 anywhere close to how it should have.

The pointer stuff was much better, but again, Nintendo themselves never really bothered to make a top tier multiplayer FPS to really take advantage of it.

Until, ironically, I guess Splatoon (well online multi anyway).

Putting Retro on Metroid Prime 3 was a waste, they should have let them work on a new FPS IP that was more multiplayer centric, coming in 2007 at the heigh of the Wii craze, such a game would've become a hit and potentially have given Nintendo a great new IP, but instead we got Metroid, which quite honestly is never going to be a mainstream hit. It's too slow, solitary, single-player focused.

Plus 6 years of fugly SD graphics ... ugh. I hope NX is not the same type of upgrade over Wii U.

RS2 was a good game, much better than the awful original. Honestly, it should've been a new IP, it was a sequel in name only. The sword controls in that, Skyward Sword, and Wii Sports Resort worked more than well enough for me.

As for Prime 3, as someone who doesn't give a shit about online multiplayer, I'm more than happy we got an awesome single-player-only experience.

And I didn't find Wii's graphics fugly. I actually found some games like Mario Galaxy and Prime 3 quite beautiful.

It was an oppurtunity window though .... one of the great failures of the Wii in retrospect I think is that Nintendo did not take advantage of that period in 2006-2009 in particular to create a new hit character IP.

If they were ever going to find a new FPS IP for example ... that would've been the time, but alas a lack of vision. Metroid Prime 3 didn't even sell so well.

Red Steel 2, sadly also missed the bus. Sold a meager 270,000 copies despite being a better game, by that time the Wii market had shifted from a red hot product for everyone to basically just the casual machine and gamers had ear marked the 360/PS3 by then for "real" shooters.

When a window of oppurtunity opens, you have to be ready to take advantage.

I wasn't talking about the market side of things, I was talking about my own enjoyment.

And Prime 3 is the third best selling game in the series.

It's all relative I guess. I hope NX is better than the Wii-Wii U era in general.

I'm kinda tired of the same paradigm ... IMO EAD Tokyo is the only Nintendo studio really at the top of their game right now.
