Well then... that boost the XB1S got was rather short-lived.

That one game free deal gets less effective every year

It's because these fire sales and free game deals being done with such frequency is devaluing their product.  It's the same reason why some game franchises can't hold a $60 pricepoint for more than like a month, because they've soon consistently thrown their price off a cliff after the first month that no one will buy them at 60 after a very brief window.  It's the same reason most companies don't pull a Gamecube and drive their prices down to the floor as fast as possible.  Cause it trains your consumer to wait and not buy, to expect cojstant bargains, deals, and pricecuts.  And the more you do it, the more expected it becomes and therefore the more it loses that "hot deal" appeal.

And it can also have an adverse affect on your competitors. Put a stack of money on the table you can afford to lose knowing full well your competitor has to put their house on it to call your bluff.

This is why the PS4pro is a masterful move. I've said for years that Sony play Chess and MS play Poker.

It certainly can, but only if they play ball.  Sony's real genius is in their refusal to play ball most of the time and instead use their marketing to reinforce the  concept of value in the minds of consumers.  Because instead of forcing Sony to devalue, it has backfired and made Xbox the "cheap, second rate alternative" in the minds of many.

Which is why I face palm every time a Playstation fan comes into the Amazon charts and declares Sony need to drop the price of the PS4.

I think a PS4s bundle with Dragon's Quest Builders, LBP3 and Tearaway would go down well.

Might as well drop the price to $249. Those games add no value to a PS4 purchase and would do nothing to improve sales.

Won bet with t3mporary_126 - I correctly predicted that the Wii U's LTD at the end of 2014 would be closer to 9 million than 10 million. http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=6673287
