Forums - Gaming - Should the voting system be removed from the News section? or at least the down voting??.

Seems a fine system to me. If it's an comment I don't really agree with but it's not there to troll I just don't vote on it. I only really use the down vote system for the same 2-3 idiots who troll every Xbox news article but other than that I just usually up vote comments I agree with.

So what you're saying is that the system needs to pander to one's personal insecurities...?

Its clear the ones who takes time to leave a comment are far from insecure since they are putting themselfs out there. However the same cant be said about people who hide behind such a broken system.

Wrong. Insecurities are normally revealed by reaction. That's how you know they're insecure.

I emailed VGChartz a link to this topic with the question if they can change the KARMA system, all we can do :) but I agree completely with the reasoning of the Original Poster

The voting system gives people the option to agree or disagree with someone. By removing it, we remove those choices. Not posting in article is another option. Thus, the system should remain as is, otherwise balance is lost. It shouldn't cater to one pespective/viewpoint, even though, yes, some may/will abuse said right (as humans will do with most things).

On the moderator ends of this, I'm happy to see many of you being reasonable in your replies. ;)

You dont remove the choice. You give them the option of replying in a more open way.

They can upvote what they agree with or comment on what they dont and then other people can upvote this. How exactly is this taking away choice?.

The only think its taking away is a broken system.

The comment  system in news articles isn't meant to be a forum, the reason the voting system is there is so people can quickly give their opinions on another persons statement. People don't want to have massive conversations in the comment section of a news article or discussions/arguments spanning hundreds of comments.

The forum is for indepth discussion and debate, the comment section of news articles is for quick statements and the voting system is helpful in that regard.

So if a person says something thats good but gets a reaction of 8 or so down votes then its the down voters thats insecure?

If a troll says something bad and gets a reaction 100 up votes who is insecure then?

I think when talking about the current voting system insecuritys should be left out of the discussion as its cleear it doesnt reveal anything about the problem and can be clearly used to say both sides are insecure.

Nope.  I never said that.  The context here is the reaction of the person GETTING THE DOWN VOTES.

If you're crying over receiving down votes, you need a life.  And if that doesn't help, seek professional help if not medication.  Receiving down or up votes on a website never dictates who and what I am.  Let me teach you a couple of facts of life.  We as individual members of the human race tend to think that we are always right, and NOT everyone is always going to agree with you.  And if a person opts to express their opinion on a website via a up/down voting system, you either take it or leave it.  It doesn't mean the system is perfect, but it also doesn't mean that you and anyone else who shares the same point of view should be denied down votes and are entitled up votes.

If you truely believe in what you are saying and you are secure enough to stand by it, ANY kind of voting up and/or down system should be a ZERO issue.  No pun intended.

But I enjoy giving xbots -4.

But that's just right above the "Comments below voting threshold."  You are such a tease.   Shameful.

Sounds like someone didn't like that someone else didn't like their comment

It's even more fucked when people that are part of the supporters program have a stronger downvote and upvote. What sort of shit is that.

Downvoting should be removed. It's basically a popularity contest where people downvote others just because they disagree, not because the comment itself was bad. I don't necessarily mind sorting comments by how many votes they've received, but when it's essentially a popularity system, it doesn't make much sense to hide the comments that aren't popular enouh. It's essentially hiding unpopular comments even when they're good, and I don't think hiding any good comments is good for discussion.

Actually I find that when there is a, let's say, -12 voted comment, I'm attracted to it more than a +7 comment.  It might be "hidden," but it isn't stopping anyone from reading and commenting on it (and voting it down even more).  :P
