To me, what Tree of Life was trying to show was: What makes us who we are? So naturally there is this whole universe creation scene, dynosaurs etc, to show where the whole species and our environment come from. Then the film zooms in on a specific individual, and shows how life events form that person, upbringing, major events etc. I think it's a terrific movie.
