They don't have to take it away - they just have to put in the option to disable it completely for those who don't have any interest in it and the products which are supposed to make use of it.

Between dim and off is only an hour difference. I see no reason for Sony to make a change from what they already offer. The light identifies that the controller is on, and keeps track of who's who.

Because people don't want to have a light at all? I mean, obviously you don't see a reason but is it too much to imagine people don't want that light at all?
