Forums - Gaming - Opinion: No man's sky has the potential to surpass even Minecraft.

Not possible. NMS just isnt that kinda game. Its a really good proof of concept though.

The way it is ATM they really need more content big time.
What id like
*Fractions*
More then one fraction on the worlds.
Ground battles for fraction control points on planets.
What this means if the is more then one fraction on a planet them two fractions could be at war. If they are you can join a side and fight ground battles on planets to take control of that planet.

*Fracton Leaders*
Each fraction should have a leader on their Homeworld that you can enter diplomacy with for trade agreements, control points etc kinda like how it is in 4x games.

*Colony's*
You should be able to start a colony or a number of them on different worlds.
You can help and watch your colony grow by bringing it the things it needs.
people will come and join your colony and you can also go to war with other leaders colonys.

*Crafting*
A Deep crafting system like in minecraft.

*Animals&Plants*
Allow us to bring animals&Plants from different planets to other ones.
Allow us to mix Animal DNA to come up with new animals.
Allow us to make animals smarter and evolve into a new race.

*Planets/Universe*
Have dead planets with no life or air.
Allow you to tarraform them dead planets by bringing new life and plants etc to them from other planets.
You can also start a new fraction on one of them planets by evolving life that you find or by bringing them to it.
Ring Worlds, Worlds with Twin Suns etc.

*Story*
Get someone to start adding proper lore and a story to the game.
Its so big they should get people to add a number of different storys that you can take part in.

This is all i can think of for now but its just some of the things i would love to see in the game.

Sounds great, but I'm afraid that's fundamentally a different game. NMS works since it's all procedurally generated. Making changes to the world, adding new things etc would require a whole new setup. There's quite a difference between linking names to exisiting parameters (all that you upload is names linked to certain codes) and adding whole new things. The game only remembers some local changes until you leave.

It would be cool though if people can claim / promote special planets. Build star gates for short cuts and generally introduce some reason to visit certain places. Special upgrades, ships, vehicles. Organize races or add multiplayer challenges.

Perhaps some of that will arise as a community effort like it did for Elite Dangerous. Something like this http://universalcartographics.org/records/ for the strangest creatures. Or an interactive map like this https://www.edsm.net/ for the most beautiful planets and how to get there.

But yeah, creating your own zoo and colonies does sound awesome. Viva Pinata gameplay sounds like a good match to NMS.

I hope they'll allow you to zoom out on the galaxy map and show you the route you have followed. It would give it a much greater sense of scale. Also a system map with details about the planets. And set those systems in motion instead of everything just hanging there. Planets casting shadows (eclipses) would be nice too. The sun bitmap disappears behind them yet it doesn't affect the day night cycle.

The game has tons of potential. The procedural generation have lots of promise, now they need to find a way to integrate it with star system properties and expand on those.

If they manage to release it on PS3, X360, XBO, PS Vita, Wii U, iPhone, Android, my toaster, your toaster, then sure.

But let's say it does become a Minecraft hit on PS4 and PC, with constant updates and support and community created content... it could sell 20 or 30 million units, but right now it's waaayy too early to tell.

Bet with bluedawgs: I say Switch will outsell PS4 in 2018, he says PS4 will outsell Switch. He's now permabanned, but the bet will remain in my sig.

WHat are you talking about, this game started as a 4 man team and dint expand to like 20 until after sony got their hands on and was nearly complete by then. Its alll random gererated stuff so its not as hard as current games. Yes its still a risk and will cost, but not as much as you think and there is potential.

Saying this game will surpass Minecradt a game that haa sold over 100m units is like also saying it will surpass COD,GTA,Pokemon, Wii Sports at $60 i just cant see it happening.

I did not mean it has potential to get near any of thouse games, but it has potential to be a good game compared to the baron shell it is now and can sell much better.

It takes genuine talent to see greatness in yourself despite your absence of genuine talent.

Yep it won't reach Minecraft levels, 1 big reason is that it will probably struggle to take the mobile scene like Minecraft did. Minecraft can run on any shitty computer and any half decent phone, NMS will need a very dumbed down version to get it to workk on these devices.

What it can do that is similar to Minecraft is create a community. There's a massive world for a community to exist in and if they play their cards right it could see Mincraft type of legs (on console and gaming PC crowd). The potential is huge! The best thing that could of happened is it sell extremely well like it has, it now has funds and a huge communtiy to try and keep so they have the resources and the incentive.

You can be sure we will get patch after patch adding new features and they can probably build a dedicated team just for NMS. It's just depends on which direction they want to go, build on the single player exploration or start turning it into a MMO type game with a galaxy to explore.

no it can't
no man's sky has a stigma. It is a bad game. Not fun for many people. Was overpromised and underdelivered. The Devoloper lied about what the game is and you can do.

Its a joke to compare it to Minecraft in any aspect, to be honest

It's not family friendly and accessible like MC, so no it won't be as popular, therefore the resources wont be spent on it

Sean Murray, is that you?

As it currently stands, that's a really bold opinion. I don't think it can as it is now. If it adds more features, it could become a better game, but to surpass MC? I have my doubts.
