It typically depends on the type of game, but most games I prefer are in third person, so I guess that.

Agreed. Resident Evil 7 was the first title in the main series to have first person and I was a bit disappointed. Well, I think I could live with it but the fact that it looks like a different type of horror game might explain my worries about it.
Third person absolutely.
My excitement for a game drops by about 40% just for it being first person.
heavily depends on the type of game and situation
I think an atmospheric horror game can work great in both perspectives, maybe I prefer first person for the scares. I think an action game can be effective in both ways, hence why many let you change perspective with a push of the button.
An adventure platformer, third person.
A story based adventure game like Bioshock I prefer in first person.
the thing is it will totally vary based upon what you're doing in the game. if its a game in which you're in a big space and need to see your surrounding and multi task then third person will obviously be preferable. If its a story based or atmospheric game where you're supposed to truly 'experience' things, then first person is the obvious go-to
It depends. Some games makes more sense in first person, for more immersion.

For shooters, First person. 3rd person for pretty much everything else though.
I prefer first person but most of my games are third person so I just get used to that perspective ...
