Yea, I thought it was a given that AMD was doing the next chips considering they've been working with Nintendo since at least the Gamecube (when it was ATi before being bought).  I would be surprised if they went with Nvidia.  The latest rumors just didn't make sense to me.

If it isn't for NX then it has to be for NES Classic.

The relationship actually predates that. ArtX formed from the team that helped develop the N64. They were bought by ATI which was in turn acquired by AMD. I'm having a hard time buying this Nvidia talk when all their financials in regards SoCs don't show any hints of a deal with anyone in the gaming sector. They cancelled the Shield 2. Their CEO was asked point blank about Tegra and he said nothing about any thing in the gaming space. He talked about Self driving cars, Drones, Embedded applications for buildings and cities. 

A nice bit of info.  I just remembered the ATi logo on the GC in the front.  It kind of reminded me of the logos they put on most computers. 

Pascal/Tegra X2 is happening. It's being unveiled at the Hot Chips conference later this month. 

A lot of people at Nvidia are AMD employees who have worked with Nintendo before too. 

Nintendo has been incredibly secretive about the NX, moreso than even their other systems -- we are now like 7 months away from launch and still don't even have a "first wave" unveil of the system hardware at least. 

To me AMD boasting about chip wins is unprofessional too if those vendors are asking for details to be kept private. I don't think Nintendo would be happy with that at all. 

Nvidia is keeping hush because Nintendo has told them to, I think that's all there is to it. 

Nintendo does have ties to Nvidia too though, I don't think the transition would be all that much of a big deal.

Guess which company he's a former employee of? Nvidia.

Bob Feldstein is the person at Nvidia in charge of GPU licensing.

Wanna know what he did before that? He was VP of AMD's console business. Nintendo would know him well from his AMD days, so working with Nvidia is likely very easy for Nintendo.

I thought I heard this posted too (but this I can't verify) that the Nvidia person unveiling the Tegra Pascal (X2) stuff at the Hot Chips conference was one of the main designers on the GameCube back in the day. 

A lot of AMD/ATi staff are now at Nvidia. 

AMD only talks about design wins, without mentioning who are their clients, and they do that during their quaterly/annual financial reports because their investors deserve/need to know how AMD's divisions will do in the short-mid term.

There's nothing unprofessional about that, and given that their clients aren't mentioned, there is no reason to not talk about those new designs. And that applies to both AMD and Nvidia.

IMO this wouldn't fly with Nintendo. Nintendo talks about their tech on their terms. 

This is also the most secretive I've ever seen Nintendo be about a console hardware. 7 months away from launch we knew way more about the N64, GameCube, Wii, and Wii U, in fact all four had already been shown in some physical form by this point. 

Odds are Nvidia is simply not allowed to talk about this and are being respectful of Nintendo's wishes. 

If they said something like "we have a gaming win for the Tegra chip" it would be pretty fucking obvious what they're referring to. Nvidia is not as desperate as AMD either, they don't need to talk about contract wins as badly.

Man, the rumour train never stops, specially not on the NX. But just in case, if this one was actually true, which range of power would we be talking about?
