Forums - Gaming - Battlefield 1 $130 Exclusive Collector's Edition has NO GAME

This also probably marginally helps the piracy revenue loss. I have a friend that literally pirates every game he wants to play unless it's impossible like a MMO but will browse eBay to get the swag he wants without the game. This lets him do so easier I guess.

The analogies you've been using make no sense.  People buy a statue to display.  You can't play a statue.  This isn't the body of a car being sold without an engine.  A statue and a game are not dependent on one another to work.  In no way shape or form do you need to buy the two pieces from the same place or at the same time for them to function.

Someone wants to buy a CD key from an online retailer for $40 and then this SKU from Amazon?  It works exactly the same as if they bought them together.

It blows my mind the things people complain about.

The analogy makes perfect sense you and jim bob here just don't have any legitimate response to it, a statue may not be dependent on a game but a CE of a game is hence why it's called Battlefield 1 collector's edition, take your time the hint is in the name. This isn't buying a statue this is buying an edition of a game that comes with out the game, like I said before it's not rocket science on why it's comical if you still can't figure it out don't worry about it jog on.

Also isnt a big reason for buying a game digitally the fact that you dont have a game that takes up space? The game is too much, but an artbook, figure, cloth map and a useless steelbook is ok? Its just weird.

Yeah it's one reason Steam revived PC gaming, but don't worry you can always look at the art on it I've been told.

It's only one of many reasons of prefering digital versions, space ain't the issue for everyone.

What are the other reasons then?

Which is why I said it's one reason.

So why do they need a steelbook to have a game in?

You do know ... you can display the steelbook without the game inside?  I mean, you're saying people who buy a digital copy can't have this because they can't put a game case in it?  That's kind of amazing.

Goodness, I guess someone needs to tell Amazon and EA they can't sell this because you can't understand that it's the extras that are the collector's part, not the game itself.  How dare they.  Looks like you're the one that needs to jog on, as they likely don't give a rat's ass about your internet whining.

Except no one's whining just pointing out how comical the situation is it's amusing watching you and jim bob get tilted over it as well. jog on son.

What this represents is another option.  It could, in theory, also represent an overestimation by EA. Perhaps they made 500,000 of the CE and only have preorders for 50,000 and thus want to make up what could potentially be a lose.

What I see though?  Is a company that is rebranding their entire game.  Battlefield 1.  This is the what, 5th mainline game?  Why rebrand it as 1?  Here is the why: attract new customers.

You know what a new customer isn't prone to do?  Spend $190 for a CE on a game they haven't tried yet.  Here is an anecdote.  I love Bioshock.  It is my favorite game franchise of last gen.  I have a Big Daddy from the game tattooed on my arm and the CE of Bioshock 2 to "prove it" along with a few other collectibles.  You know what I don't have?  The CE of Bioshock 1 or Bioshock Infinite.

"Why not Mr. Degenerate?"

Why thank you for asking I am gonna tell you why.  Because I didn't know what Bioshock was when I bought the first one and I wasn't shelling out (that's if they even had one, didn't look) and Bioshock 2 wasn't everything I thought it was so I wasn't getting burned on another $200 purchase for Infinite.  I regret not buying the CE on Infinite.  I am not buying the game a second time to get it.  If they had this exact option, I would've picked this thing up a couple hours after turning on Infinite.

Anecdote over.

Battlefield is a popular game, but they want it to be more.  They want CoD level.  This is a step they are taking in hoping to get it there.

Then dont make a CE for the game at all. The fun of having a CE is that its quite exclusive. You have something cool not many other people have. Thats the point of a CE. If everyone can get one, then whats the point? Just make regular merchandise and sell that instead.

No, the fun of having a CE is having the CE. Most of the CEs I've bought are Halo Legendary CEs, which are both quite common AND expensive, but I bought them because I love the franchise and I liked having stuff from it.

But you know what Legendary editions I don't have? Master Chief Collection and Halo 5. MCC because I bought got it with the special edition Xbox One, and Halo 5 because I buy any game I intend to keep digitally now, since that saves me having to keep/swap disks, saves me shelf space, and let's me play the game the second it's available. And if they had this option for Halo 5, I'd probably have the collector's edition for it right now. Honestly, I may get it anyway, so they are still quite common and are apparently now even on sale.

The uproar over this is ridiculous. It's basically MADE for digital-only gamers like me, for people who don't want to invest in the regular game right away, or decide to invest in it elsewhere. I won't get it because I'm not a huge Battlefield fan, but it doesn't bother me that other peopel can.
