In my opinion dedicated gaming handhelds are dead and they should be dead. 3DS is selling only on the back of a strong exclusive lineup and only got that lineup because of strong sales while smartphones were not as prevalent and powerful as they are now.

That's why Nintendo is doing a hybrid. Because doing them separate would mean miserable sales for both, so they combine them. A sad move for console gamers but a smart move for Nintendo.

Also, no one gives a shit about PSNow on mobile. Hell, no one gives a shit about PSNow on anything currently.

Actually, PS now was too expensive.... And had only like 100 games..... Now it's over 350 games and cheaper.... So it's going to grow more popular

But how can you play GTA on a mobile? And streaming PS3 games? I can't imagine in my head how they can be played on a tiny smartphone.

30 million units of NX in its lifetime... Now that would be a huge fail. You're not the only one on VGC predicting such low numbers.

But GTA sold tens of millions of copies on mobile.... And runs very well at a high resolution vs console.....

And most smartphones are becoming bigger and bigger, in face the average galaxy has a bigger screen than the PS Vita....

Tens of millions of copies? Please tell me you are kidding! But how can you play it on mobile? Are they totally different versions (like Assassin's Creed had sidescrollers when they went mobile)?

Welcome back btw. You're a funny guy and you always liven up this place.

Well... There will always be a market for handheld games so I don't think it will fail. Nintendo =/= Sony for better or for worse. Yea we have some games on smartphones like the ones you mentioned but most of those games are mobile oriented or just old ports. Samsung, Apple and Google aren't really pushing mobile games that much but rather just make the platform be complatible with a wide variety of APIs and etc... Where as NX will have Nintendo's IPs as well as third party support. I mean, where are all the vita devs and 3ds devs gonna go?

They can't charge $40 on a game on mobile... It just won't work proven by virtually zero games with that price tag. Most games on mobile are either free or very cheaply priced and no one has any idea whether or not its gonna be a success.

The only way NX will fail is if they price it stupidly (Above $250 but even thats pushing it) and make the same mistakes they made this generation such has terrible naming, terrible marketing and etc.

Oh and not to mention most smartphone batteries go RIP when playing demanding games for long periods of time.

That handheld market is shifting towards mobile tho, I truly feel that if Sony launches PS now on mobile, that's going to really hurt Nintendo, and end the Vita, you could run PS now on a 5 Mbps connection.... And most LTE is over 15mbps

It is to a certain extent... People still want to play dedicated handheld games proven by the sales of the 3ds and its library. As for PSNow... There are several problems with it... A) Touch screen controls B) Latency C) DataCaps D) Throttling

A) Is obvious

B) While phones can certainly do 5Mbps+, the issue is that the data has to go all the way back to the tower, then to Sony's servers and then come back to the phone. This means that the distance that it has to travel is huge and no amount of Mbps can solve the distance issue. What the result will end up in is that in order to have a smooth, hitchfree experience, the users would have to use a really good wifi. Considering there have been several reports of this being a problem even on the ps4, on mobile, it will be a hugeeee drawback.

C) If you thought Netflix took a lot of data, this will probably take even more

D) We have had endless articles and reports and tests of ISPs throttling the speed during streaming Netflix, specially when the user goes above a certain amount of data. That will happen here and it will hinder the PSNow Experience.

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

Mobile gamers won't give a shit about PSNow, those aren't the types of games that are popular with mobile gamers and who has unlimited data to use outside the house?

Sony is welcome to put PSNow on NX though, lol.

NX will use Android (even if its a custom fork). Nikkei is pretty much always right, I take their word for it. Nintendo is not fighting mobile, they will use mobile as an ally.

Are you being serious? GTA on mobile are higher res, and higher frame rate versions of the original ps2 games..... And yes they sold tens of millions of units look it up boo

Nintendo according to the latest reports want to upgrade smartphone gamers, and therefore are releasing a hybrid console.... If they can give a fuck about Netflix of gaming PS now on the go, they wouldn't really care about nx, actually with P's now u don't even have to carry a different device...... Why would someone have their nx and their smartphone on top of them?

I see and accept the argument about handhelds being dead. I mean in the light of everyone owning a flashy and smooth smartphone, a handheld gaming console looks archaic lol

And yet, what about controls? Controls are very important for any gamer, and a smartphone's touch controls just don't feel good with almost any games that core gamers like. Therefore there must still be a market for handhelds.

Maybe if Sony reminds people that it still exists instead of dropping it like the Vita. They could make it free right now and nobody would notice.

Sony just doesn't have the IP to be successful in the mobile space. It's a totally different ball game where cartoony games dominate. They can throw whatever service they want there. Sony and MS could make mobile apps for 15 years and probably never come up with something as popular as Pokemon Go already is.

NX will run Android apps IMO, that will give them a big edge with parents looking to get their kids a tablet since it'll be able to kill two birds with one stone (as it can function as the child's Nintendo system too). NX is not looking to compete with phones, it'll be a tablet form factor. I think Nintendo knows trying to keep phones out of people's pockets is impossible.

Yeah, I didn't even know GTA existed on mobile. But resolution and framerate means nothing if the controls don't work lol

Do you play these kind of games on mobile yourself?

Since I've never heard about this I'm prepared to bet that these "millions of sales" were practically for free. People who thought the idea to own GTA on their phone is cool, but it's an entirely different story if they actually played it.

I don't see any "HD gaming" trend coming up on mobile in the near future and I don't think Nintendo has anything to fear from that segment. It's the Clash of Clans and arcade-style games that are a threat to Nintendo but they have already stolen a significant chunk of Nintendo's handheld audience, and it was already reflected in the 3DS sales compared with DS. I don't think there's any dramatic current trend we'll be witnessing anytime soon on mobile apart from Nintendo's own Pokemon Go and similar games from Nintendo himself.
