Forums - Nintendo - MCV: NX Graphics In Between A PS3 And PS4

If the NX can plausibly run current generation games in a portable form factor, that is honestly the most impressive piece of video game hardware of the last 10 years fairly easily.

Vita did that (better than the NX is going to do, I believe).

Maybe its a no brainer for you, but it holds no logic. Bundling everything while keeping the price down? That is a physical impossibility given Nintendo admits that they won't sell systems at a loss anymore.

If they can have a system that is a portable with a docking station then it makes sense to offer the docking station as an option to reduce the price.

Though i do think Nintendo would just try to shove stuff down our throats like Microsoft tried to. We will see. But i don't see any chance for what can be essentially an overpriced portable wich can connect to the TV. Quite honestly, that is partially what the Vita TV is and it was a disaster.

The real point here is: Portables above 250€/$ won't fly. Wether you can connect them to the TV or not.

I will say this though If they can run Android apps I think they can. That adds huge value to a device and prices it favorably compared to many mid/high-end tablets, a 16GB iPad Mini for instance is $400 alone.

Besides, y'know lets actually look at this ...

The Wii + DS cost most people $400-$420 combined ($250 for the Wii + $150-$170 for the DS)

The Wii U + 3DS is $500 for the standard models most people buy, $600 if you bought both at launch.

So how is the NX at $250 or even $300, that basically does the same as the DS/3DS + Wii/Wii U in one box overpriced?

People need to get over the 3DS launch IMO ... it was an extremely mediocre launch with an extremely crappy hardware and an unwhelming gimmick of a 3D screen that gave half the people that played it a headache.

The PSP sold very well at $250, five years prior no less, in fact it was outselling the DS for a good while there until Nintendo started to hit pay dirt with the expanded audience stuff like Brain Training and Nintendogs.

You're making a case for those that bought a Nintendo handheld and a nintendo home console. For those, yeah, maybe its a good deal. For those that just got the 3DS, its not. But we are assuming much in terms of pricing here. 250€ is perfectly good, whatever they decide to cram in there, 300 and up are pretty bad for a handheld gaming device. Maybe if they make i a phone aswell. Seems to work for alot of people. :p

Sounds expensive.

That graphics will draw a lot of battery.

It will probably have more than one mode. Battery/portable mode should be more efficient.

Sorry, I was responding to someone who said the 3ds is going o outsell every Nintendo console( it won't top Wii).

All good.  I was just skimming through comments and yours stood out.  I didn't know if you were responding to someone in the thread (didn't really read that many comments in this thread) or just posting it for no reason.

There does seem to be two types of people here:

People that understand this is a hand held and not a dedicated home console.

And people like you that seem to think this is a home console.  :P

I know exactly what it is.
It is neither a handheld or a home console... It's actually both. It's a Hybrid device.

*slow clap* Congratulations in thinking it's a hand-held only device though.

Nor did I ever state it was strictly a home console either, so don't put words into my mouth.

A hand held that can be played on a television is no more a home console than a console that can be played on a controller screen.

I get it, you are daft. And I have solid reading comprehension. For example, you said you would rather buy two home consoles without mention of hand helds. But if it is both, well, should you not consider buying or sticking to your hand held? No consideration there? Probably because you are comparing it to home consoles. Which it is not.

If the rumors are true, I said before that this console uses mobile technology, cartridges, and has an adapter to hook up to a television. Sounds like a hand held that can be played on a television. It does not sound like a true hybrid. If Nintendo were to release a new hand held, would it not be released, as all their previous hand helds, during the middle of the home console generation? It would? Is this the middle of a home console generation? It is? The successor to the 3DS would be released in like 2017, right? That would be six years later, right? Is this console schedueled to be released in 2017? It is? Would it possibly be released in March (same month 3DS was released) instead of Novemeber (where all home consoles have been released in recent memory)? No? I wish people called Wii U a hybrid. I mean technically, it was a hybrid by your standards, too. Right? Hybrid in this case is just a buzzword. Nothing and I mean nothing that we have heard thus far says, "home console."

And I know what you stated - but you did not include the rest of my post but I clearly covered that. It is what it is. People who do not compare it to a hand held, even if they call it a hybrid, are doing it a disservice. If the rumors are true. Of course, you will probably not reply, or heavily edit out most of my reply if you do. And in that case, you are a waste of my time. I will cut my losses with you here. But do not think your foolishness falls upon blind eyes. I can see and I pay attention to, everything.

And slow claps are good for you, specifically. It seems things moving at normal pace for us are too fast for you.

Like asking "when do we eat?" and getting the answer "sometime between now and tomorrow"

My thoughts on this too a small bit lol, don't forget what's for dinner too, it's somewhere between Pizza and Stones, hope it's nice!

Better be a big ass battery, my 6s plus does about 2-3 hours gaming and dies.

If the rumours are true... and they rarely are.

I would love to see the 3rd parties starting to roll out extra battery packs for this potential power eating beast, I'm thinking they could team up with the reboot of Ghostbusters to create Proton pack sized packs for long journeys!

If you believe in what you just said...

I guess you are correct. I thought you were the first guy. But since I mistook you, for the other guy, I will indulge you as a consequence.

Bundling Kinect, a product most did not want which raised the price of the base unit was obviously a terrible idea.

Bundling what is considered an essential selling point of this new console, while keeping the price down and giving everyone the same starting and end point sounds like a brilliant idea by comparison. If you do not understand that, please stay the fuck out of business. This shit is not rocket science. Would they sell the tablet without the controller next? Catering to the lowest common denominator when introducing a radical idea is essential to proper growth and development. This is about as laymen as I can explain it. One was an extra, unwanted feature and the other is an essential and desired feature. This is a no brainer.

The real point here is: Portables above 250€/$ won't fly. Wether you can connect them to the TV or not.

It was not a mistake to respect you so much after my previous reading error. Most of what you said makes sense and I can respect even if I do not necessarily agree with you. With that said, if you are saying that it is not cheaper to keep everything in one box and that it is not smarter to have what could be your potential system selling capability packaged with the console, then as I said before, stay away from business. Shipping on two separate products can be a slippery slope that in the end, consumers would have to pay. There is no reason a connector for the television would need to be sold separately other than greed and confusion. I think Nintendo needs to keep this thing all together because it will make the most sense to the most people that way. If they just want a hand held, they got one, but if they want to hook it up to their television, for no additional (precieved) cost or (actual) inconvenience, they have that ability as well. It really is that simple.

At least you understand if what is rumored is true that this is a portable that can be connected to a television and not a home console. I will agree that if the price is too high, it will not work. However, what is being presented is not modern technology and relatively inexpensive. I do think they can sell it at the price you mentioned but they may break even as opposed to making profit. Of course, now we are speculating on something else entirely. Technically, it would not be sold at a loss but if they intended profit, they may not like that road and may try for 279 or 300. I refuse to pay above 300 for what the rumors have stated. But if it turns out to be within the 250-300 range, I will squirm but pay for it. Not to say everyone else would, however. I believe 250 is that magic number.

As I stated before, my daughter can link her iphone to our television with a cable that cost me like ten dollars. If Nintendo thinks they can get away with selling the adapter shell for much of anything at all, that would be silly. Fans may pick it up but like Vita with the overpriced memory cards, that could be an undoing for some people. If what is rumored is true then Nintendo may as well just package it in because this shell is basically the same thing as that iphone cable and to think it should cost the consumer anything more on the final price tag would be unacceptable.
