Not sure I'd go as far as buying a cardboard box but if a box is getting all of Nintendo's software output, I'd definitely buy it. That seems to be the plan with the NX.

Lmao Why would Nintendo make a system weaker than the 360 and PS3? That nonsense aside it is known that the Tegra X1 is weaker than PS4 and Xbox One. With Neo and Scorpio on the horizon the gap will widen. If Nintendo does go with the Tegra X1 will you be preordering the NX? Or did the Wii U launch leave too much of a bad taste for Day Zero purchases? |
Its not.... I think the Wii U was like 176 Gflops? someone here wrote that earlier on atleast. Person below says 350 Gflops.
The Tegra X1 is like 500+ Gflops (in fp32)
The PS4 does 1.84 Tflops (1840 Gflops) in fp32 mode.
So basically the new NX will be around 2x as powerfull as the Wii U.
And around 1/3 of the power of the normal PS4 model.
*No I wont preorder it.
But its not really about power with nintendo or 3rd party... at this point it should be clear thats not going to happend for the NX.
However if its cheap enough, and has good first party nintendo games, its still worth a buy.
Its being hinted at this console could be very cheap... like 199$ - 249$ at launch... so thats a plus.

How much of a difference would a Tegra X2 make as opposed to a Tegra X1? Would it put it at least at Xbox One power level, slightly lower, slightly higher, etc?
Also if they were to use an X2 chip wouldn't that really bring up the price of the NX? Unless Nintendo got a great deal or something.

Probably not... but I would be surprised if it didnt mean it went from like 512 Gflops to atleast around 700 Gflops.
We re still talking less power than Xbox One, or under half of the PS4, and thats a best case scenario.
Its more likely it ends up useing a older but dirt cheap by now Tegra X1.

Plot twist: game consoles are sold in cardboard boxes.

Nobody knows yet, Nvidia has been keeping Tegra X2 development very quiet (which might be a hint at a partnership with Nintendo, maybe they're keeping it quiet because Nintendo is keeping NX quiet). What we do know is that Tegra X1 was about a 76% improvement over it's predecessor Tegra K1, so a similar 76% improvement for Tegra X2 would put it at 903 gflops, while XB1 is 1310 gflops, so still lower than XB1. Of course the improvement for Tegra X2 could be bigger than 76%, afterall it has been in development longer than Tegra X1 was in development. |
Oh ok. Thanks for the info.

LOL. Even I'm not that loyal to Microsoft...
Made a bet with LipeJJ and HylianYoshi that the XB1 will reach 30 million before Wii U reaches 15 million. Loser has to get avatar picked by winner for 6 months (or if I lose, either 6 months avatar control for both Lipe and Hylian, or my patrick avatar comes back forever).

Hard to tell since X2 hasnt been revealed yet but here is the improvement from the last few Tegra chips.
Tegra 4(2013)-96 gflops
Tegra K1(2014)-325 gflops
Tegra X1(2015)-512 gflops
Based on that I would say the new chip will be a pretty nice boost over X1.
