I heard Earthbound/Mother is pretty dark. A lot of stuff are referenced by Itoi's childhood experiences. Game Theory explained it pretty well.

But yeah, Eternal Darkness is the only correct answer to this question. It is a Nintendo game, as Nintendo owns the IP.
