If this is true, it's the closest we'll ever get to having a mainline Pokémon game playable on a TV, so count me in lol. I really hope Nintendo knows what they're doing this time, another flop would break my heart =/

I think they were talking about the mock up's physical size, not the amount of memory. If it has carts, I'm guessing they will be about the 3DS size in volume.

Way to find the greatest silver lining ever with this one. Pokemon on an XBO-level console is a dream until Gamefreak's ineptitude eventually mucks it up.
Let's not focus on that last bit, though.

To be fair, 10+ million core Nintendo fans is nothing to sneeze at. If only Naughty Dog supported PS, I'm sure the PS4 would do the same numbers. THAT BEING SAID, I agree with everything else you said. This simply isn't a good idea. |
Nah. If the PS4 had the same third pary support as Wii U, and only Naughty Dog, they'd be lucky to get to five million. They just don't have the output or as big franchises.

Last year.

But the question is whether they would GAIN anyone or just merge their secure handheld and console audiences while sacrificing any double-dipping sales. |
I think nintendo still lives in a bubble. I fear some of its fans do too.....
I really hope this strategy works out for them but i just dont know. You can buy an amazon fire tablet for as little as $50. I have friends with kids that have found it more effective getting their kids a tablet which ipems them up to netflix, tons of free android games, YouTube and they can even Skype with said kids through it. for a parent, their is way more value in a $50 tablet than there is in a $200-$250 console for their kids. And that is something Nintendo is going to have to overcome.
Forget the core crowd, I doubt Nintendo still believes they have much of that left.
This is one of those things that sound really good on paper but in reality I fear not so much. But we will see I guess.
This thread is gigantic. However, I agree with all the comments that say it is weird that Nintendo delayed announcements because they feared that competition would copy their oh-so novel concept.
What is so new about a handheld that plugs into tv? My PSP does that via a acessory, I am sure the Vita can do it too somehow.
Do not get me wrong, the idea is cool, but not revolutionary at all.

Core Nintendo fans are the ones who bought the Wii U. If you hadn't noticed, there aren't that many of them. And those core Nintendo fans would have bought a pure handheld or a pure console. Probably both. What exactly does this offer the casual gamer? Why would mom and dad pay 250 for something to play during roadtrips when tablets run as low as 50 dollars? $250 is not cheap for a handheld. Fans can try to defend this, but it's just not a good idea. It fixes very few of the problems the Wii U had. Hopefully, Eurogamer is completely wrong about this, or explained it in an awful way. |
This is safer for Nintendo. By the time the NX launches the PS4 will be around 55-60ml and the xb1 will be around 30ml. It would be hard for Nintendo to come into this console race with a brand new console when the other consolkes have a large userbase already and the PSNEO/Scorpio will out peform the NX. This would be another Wii U situation all over again. Nintendo going pushing portability while still giving the fans the home console experience is very smart buisness wise. Imagine the next Pokemon coming to the NX and you can still play it outside and come home hook it up to your TV and play it online with HD graphics.
Also a $50 tablet wont give you the high quality Nintendo experience a $250 console will.
