lol could be the reason.And spring 2017 could be as soon as end of february or as late as end of may, making it miss the release date of the NX.Then it would make sense.

Well, this game seems like it could be awesome. It looks like what Sonic 4 should have been, a return to the classic style with the same looks and mechanics of the 1st titles. This has the potential to be real good. The sprites feel like Sonic/CD as well, and that's pretty cool. I may get this on PC, or NX if that is announced.

I have spent an entire generation playing Sonic 1/2/CD/3&K. Lets not even count all the ports and revamps every gen:

- Sonic Jam for Saturn

- Sonic collection's for GC and PS2

- Sonic collection for DS

- Sonic Ultimate genesis collection for PS3/X360

Outside of its wonderful sprite animation, absolutely nothing original was shown. Even in the new stages old gimmicks were being reused. All Sonic Mania is is another Sonic collection dude. It has few new bell whistles, but nothin calls for obligatory hype. Now a brand new classic Sonic game..._    

You ask for a classic Sonic game after poopooing on a Classic-styled Sonic game that feels familiar and also adds a new mechanic that feels like it will fit perfectly in the classic setting. 

Maybe they're giving assests? After all, some part of this game is a remix.

XXain... you are beeing the worst representation of a Sonic fan right now, theres no pleasing you. Look at the number of likes on the sonic mania trailer versus the sonic 2017 one. This is what people want.

After the initial stun i have to admit i'm really hyped for Sonic mania. Never wanted a Sonic game so much since adventure 2. If their objective is to rebirth Sonic into an icon, it is now very clear how to go about it.

Sonic 2017 is the disappointment here. Can't we just can "modern" Sonic already? Sonic adventure 3 was the way to go. That is the way to rebirth Sonic. Continue the series entries that made him great. Generations isn't great, it's serviceable. That's why theres no hype for this generations 2 with an original story.

It's sad that Sonic team themselves still don't quite get it. But the reception to Mania will definitly make a statement. Sonic will never be great again without a shift in thought at Sonic team.

SEGA is treating classic development just like they did with Sonic 4. Only difference this time is the product looks alot better. Is SEGA wanted to do something with the classic series, THEY should have done it not shoehorn it off to a Sonic fan hacker community. Its sooo unprofessional to me. Its so half ass to me. Its obvious Sonic Team is not interested in Classic series..So leave it be! Dont keep dangling it over our heads, with all these half assed efforsts. " We'll only use classic Sonic when he came be teamed up with our Sonic! A sequel to the classics from us? Lol no".  Im not happy about project 2017 either. I am right with you with not wanting another Sonic teamup. Sonic project 2017 left a sour taste, not because people dont like it, but because wanted almost a year the announcement only for Sonic Team to give us a trailer that did nothing but confirm Sonic Team is developing a Sonic game. Woah. Without any gameplay were in the same spot we were without the trailer. Also, not just us, but alot of people didnt want a another teamup 

I dont hate Sonic Mania and of I'm going get it, buts its more the politics behind it. Its bad idea to get the community involved. 

Sonic 4 was horrible.

The physics were off, it baffled me how the 2D levels from Generations were able to replicate the original Sonic games physics while 4, which was supposed to be a classical Sonic game, couldn't.

If its $40 it will be a must have for me.
