Obviously summoning a "Spirit Bomb".

I'll wait for the investigation, because several times an edition cut or just seeing a small sample of these kind of situation is seriously misleading.

That's a better excuse than "I don't know"

The cop could've said anything. It doesn't matter, we'll find out in investigation but I don't see how it'd be relevant. Also I think at this point it's fair to give the man the benefit of the doubt in terms of what the cop said.

A man was laying on the ground with his hands up after committing no crime. Calmy explained himself and the position and still got shot. That's what matters, not what the cop said.

Yeah I agree that in this case what the cop said adds little to the story but of course it does add a little icing on the cake of how much of a mistake he made if it was true that he said "I don't know" directly in response to if this man asked him "why did you shoot me" it would be like if he replied with "because I hate n*****s" to him or something like... clearly it does change the whole story of the shooting and adds other levels to why this awful mistake happened. I mean the fact that the unarmed man was black isn't really important to the story either, but that doesn't mean it hasn't made its way into the headlines and thread title.

That's a lot of mistakes from the people who are supposed to protect and serve.

I really wonder what theses guys field training consist of. What's their rule of engagement, do they train in de-escalation of force or they're just taught if they "fear for their lives" to let bullets fly.

I don't think there really is a way to defend this particular incident. Either the cop mis-fired which proves incompetence in the line of duty, or the officer meant to fire at the Autistic man whom he may have perceived as a threat and missed enough to hit the guy laying on the ground.

There was only one shot and the officer is claiming it was accidental and luckily did not hit any vitals so I highly doubt that race had anything whatsoever to do with this situation.

However, both likely possibilities from above are bad and at the very minimum the officer deserves a long suspension with community service. At most he deserves to lose his job with a short sentence in prison for negligence. I know people are calling for jail time but that is not very reasonable when if this incident were to happen between two other individuals with no police involvement it would likely be seen as accidental and end in no more than a slap on the wrist.

Cell phone video footage has been released that shows the moments before an unarmed black therapist with his hands up was shot by North Miami police while attempting to care for his autistic patient, according to WSVN-TV.

Disabled caregiver Charles Kinsey was lying on his back with his hands in the air, attempting to talk to the officers who were aiming their weapons at them. The police had received reports of a man with a gun threatening suicide.

“When I went to the ground, I went to the ground with my hands up,” Kinsey said, “and I am laying there just like this. Telling them again there is no need for firearms. He is autistic. He has a toy truck in his hand.”

Kinsey can be heard clearly saying to police on the video “All he has is a toy truck. A toy truck. I am a behavior therapist at a group home.”

Kinsey was shot while in this submissive position. Kinsey said he still has no idea why the officers shot him.

“I thought it was a mosquito bite, and when it hit me I had my hands in the air, and I’m thinking I just got shot!” Kinsey said. “And I’m saying, ‘Sir, why did you shoot me?’ and his words to me were, ‘I don’t know.’

"I don't know"?
Thank god he wasn't killed. Incompetent cops like this are a danger to society.

Couldn't you find a better video than a damn new report going on for over 3 minutes just talking?

lol at "I don't know".

Because the cop saying 'I don't know' is the focal point of this story..

It isn't, but the OP and first reply in this thread seem to think that those words came from the cops mouth, I'm just saying keep an open mind here that you are quoting what the cop said... according to the person who was shot.

To be perfectly honest, it really doesn't matter what the cop said.  The fact that the man was in a submission postion is really all the evidence you need.  The cop could have said I shot you because I thought you were going for a gun and still it would be the same.

Nevermind, noticed someone already making this statement.

The fact the man got shot is one thing, seeing how the police handle the situation will be something else and should be watch closely.

Um... the man was shot and he wasn't armed or threating.  Its not okay for a police officer to shoot you.  The man was a therapist/caretaker and he is patient was autistic and sitting on the ground.  Whats worse is that the cop is saying that he meant to shoot the autistic boy but missed... which is all sorts of fucked up.  Namely because why would you shoot someone sitting on the ground and two, why would you miss him and instead hit someone laying on the ground next to him?

What trun of events or investigation is going to make this okay?

The weirdest part is the fact they handcuffed him while they waited for the ambulance (which took 20 minutes to arrive). You shoot someone by accident and instead of apologizing and making sure he gets immediate attention, you cuff him? How stupid is this cop?

The gun should not be out

It should not be raised

Especially at people who posed no initial threat.

We should not even need to consider your top sentence.
