SO. Given the fact that Nintendo is venturing into making movies: With the Pikmin shorts. Kid Icarus: Uprising shorts. The Star Fox animation that was in SFZ. And all these animations and shorts that have come from them to go along with their plans for movies, just imagine:
A Nintendo Cinematic Universe!
What would it be like?  Which IPs would they use? Would it be animated or live-action? How different or true to the video games would they be? Could it be successful with Nintendo themselves in control and in charge of developing these movies? If they can't handle it themselves, who could they partner with to help them out with the movie making process? Will they even bother or do they want to do it?
Given how Nintendo is in a transitional phase and are seriously trying to expand their business and IPs beyond just gaming. I think that if they were truly serious about movies, if they get the right partners and people to help them out, and truly commit to making their iconic IPs work in movie form. Making the best of it, while staying true the foundation and lore of those IPs, that they could do it.
But it would take a lot, and I mean A LOT.
1) The very first, and most important thing in order for it to work, is that NINTENDO THEMSELVES, are the ones in charge of making the films. No handing it off to a different studio and letting them have their creative input, which automatically puts the film at risk of betraying the foundation of the source it's based on and, if gone too far, will completely trash it. (The Last Airbender, Dragonball: Evolution, Super Mario Brothers) It may have just been announced, but I'm convinced that Detective Pikachu will flop, solely because it's being handled by Legendary Pictures rather than the Pokemon Company and Nintendo themselves. (Regardless if they get Danny DeVito to voice Pikachu) Nintendo should be the ones in complete creative control over the films and the plots behind them. A big part why the Marvel Cinematic Universe is such a huge success, both critically and financially, is because Marvel themselves are the ones making, directing, and producing the films while Disney only holds the distributing rights. With the exception of Spider-Man (Sony), Marvel is very much in complete control of what goes on in the MCU. Nintendo MUST be the same with their own franchises.
2) Make them animated. With the exceptions of Metroid, Fire Emblem, and Zelda (maybe), Nintendo's IPs are NOT suited for the live-action film treatment... at all.
Mario? Nope. Pokemon? Nope. Donkey Kong? Nope. Pikmin? Nope. Yoshi? Nope. Kirby? HA. Star Fox? Well, if Bradley Cooper voices Falco it co... I mean, NO!
Bottom line is: It just wouldn't work if they did it all in live-action? It just doesn't match with those IPs, and if they did some of them live-action and some animated, that'd be even worse! What would happen when they eventually reach the Smash Bros. movie and they have to mix in all these different styles of film making into the biggest movie project they have ever made (hypothetically) it'd be a giant mess!
So the best way, in my view, is to make it all animated, preferrably CG, like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTnNdctBvtQ

Ok, maybe the Zelda tech demo is darker and a little more realistic in tone than the style for the Pikmin shorts and the Smash Bros. trailer, but you get the picture. They were consistent, especially the Smash Bros. trailer,  the characters all looked like the belonged in the same universe, and above all, they were absolutely breathtaking!
3) Partner with Disney to help & guide them through the movie making process. In exchange, Disney gets the distributing rights to the films and use of Nintendo's characters in some way they'd like (that isn't amusement parks because of Nintendo's partnership with Universal Studios.) Disney would be the perfect partner/mentor to help Nintendo in the movie making process. Because, movies are one of their top money making forms of revenue  and they have excellent track records when it comes to movies, and they've have some form of access to Nintendo's characters.
These are some ways that I think could help a Nintendo Cinematic Universe, if Nintendo ever goes that route with movies, be incredibly successful!
But, alas, this is just one huge dream of mine, and I may not live to see this become a reality, if it ever does.
What about you guys?

I don't think it could happen because it seems like Nintendo is giving out the movie rights to their IPs to different production/distribution companies. Right now, I think Sony has the rights to a Mario movie and Legendary has the rights to the Pokemon franchise so it'll be hard to get all of them to play nice -- much like the conundrum Disney has with Fox who have the X-Men rights and are essentially holding the Fantastic Four franchise hostage. It is a nice dream though and it would be great if they partnered up with a company like Dreamworks since I think NBCUniversal is looking to purchase them. If all of that worked out, it would just put Nintendo and NBCUniversal in a stronger relationship with each other since they already have the theme park deal going on.

Animated? sure, live action? hell no

I don't think Sony holds any rights to Mario, that was just a rumor that was never confirmed. They might be in talks but we haven't heard any confirmation or deconfirmation from Sony OR Nintendo on that one.
And Legnedary only has the rights to the Detective Pikachu film, not all Pokemon films. So if there's still a little ray of hope, not a big one, but it's there.

Point #2 agrees.

I honestly think if they mixed it up like that, that it would turn out worse.
Because what would they do when they made the eventual Smash Bros. movie and tried to mix in the real characters from the live action films with the animated characters? It'd look really jarring and be a mess.
Plus, Kimishima said in an interview that they're sticking to animated movies and no live-action.

Phase 1 (raw concepts, I don't have no scripts):
Super Mario Bros.
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario Bros. 2: Bowser's World Empire (featuring Donkey Kong and Yoshi)
The Legend of Zelda
Pokemon
Kirby
Metroid (featuring Captain Falcon and Fox) -introduces Master Hand
Earthbound
Super Smash Bros.(With the original 12 man roster from Smash 64)

It would only work with Super Smash Bros that's it.

Well, I figured just to speed things along so that it wouldn't take TOO long to get to Smash Bros.
I mean Hawkeye, Black Widow, and S.H.I.E.LD. didn't get their own movie before The Avengers.
And they could have a Smash Bros. movie based on Master Hand being the bad guy who was playing them like fiddles in the other movies, where he had Bowser, K. Rool, and Ganondorf serving as his puppets for example. Then when he threatens to take over the universe, the Smashers come together at Final Destination to stop him. Then, they reveal Tabuu at the end credits which leads into Phase 2. I don't know, like a said, I'm just a fan with a wild dream coming up with raw concepts.

Phase 2: Melee
Star Fox
F-Zero
Super Mario Bros. 3: Enemies and Friends (featuring Yoshi and Donkey Kong)
Fire Emblem (Zelda appears in a post credits scene to talk to Marth)
The Legend of Zelda 2: Resurrection of Ganon (featuring Marth and Roy)
Pokemon 2: Mewtwo Rises
Earthbound 2 (Featuring Kirby and Ice Climbers) - introduces Crazy Hand
Metroid 2: Ridley's Revenge
Super Smash Bros. Melee - Crazy Hand resurrects Master Hand. Introduces Game & Watch, Pit, and Palutena.
