Forums - Nintendo - Analysis- The Wii Legs... Like none other.

Its hard to pin down the cause of this, cause it didn't even really happen that much with the PS2. Maybe Wii owners are less likely to buy used copies of their games.

I just think they're less likely to trade in their games.

Maybe it's just by me but the used 360 and PS3 sections are 3 times as long.

Oddly the one i go into most often has more PS3 used games then 360 even.

It's weird, cause i'd expect MORE trade ins as the new casusals expierement and find they don't like certain games.

Then again who trades in games like Mario Galaxy? All the old school gamers who have the system probably would be as likely to trade in their games as they would their NES's and 200+ games.

Since Nintendo hasn't had many "Super Hype" games... there isn't a large group of people who have bought them, and found out they didn't like them and returned them.

Like Assassains creed.  I when they had what had to be a dozen used assassain creed games in the store.

I think its purely because if there’s like 170,000 to 300,000 Wiis being sold each week the people who buy these Wiis also buy the good games, whether their old games or not, well any games actually. So with the constantly high sales of the Wii it would be normal to expect a constant steady rate of game sales across all games.

Edit: And if the Wiis targeting a multiplayer audience (such as families and encouraging people to play with their friends) then wouldn't you also expect people to hold onto the multiplayer games? can't give an answer on why people hold onto their single player games though :p they must really like them, more then people like ps3 and 360 games lol

Keep it real guys, dont hate mario, hate the player

Currently playing:
Geometry Wars galaxies, Animal Crossing wild world, Pangya swing with style, SSX Blur

Well, I've never sold a Zelda or Metroid game. Long before the Wii I decided these games are just ones I want to hold onto. You know, seems like I've traded in many many PS games over time. I do have quite a few PS games I won't be getting rid of, but nowhere near as many as my Nintendo keepers. I really can't really think of many games on a Ninty system I've ever gotten rid of.

BAM! There it is!

Wii Code 3456 7941 4060 2924
COD MW Reflex 541192229709

I agree with the not trading in part either, I currently own 32 games and 4 of them are 360 games, 3 DS and 25 Wii games. I barely trade them in and when I do the price I get for them justifies this as generally i'll only lose £10 - £15 on the price I paid.

The Wii sure does have legs they keep walking out the door of every shop. Selling on average 400k per week since it launched.

You need to update your profile.  It shows only 10 wii games and 6 360 games.

I honestly think it is a combination of all the factors you guys are mentioning.

To me games like SMG trend almost in a direct correlation with console sold(expept during CMAS). Zelda maybe in a few case attributed to bundles but it was bundled during both dates I tested. I honestly think Zelda has more to do with my 2 main points.

1. Casuals wanted something core(Imo Zelda is the ultimate intro to core gaming, it was for me.)
2. The buyers of the Wii are more core than they were in 07. Due to SSBB and SMG.

Also there are a few games I am waiting to see if they find crazy legs.

1. NMH- it is starting to look that way it is higher this week than it was 2 weeks ago.
2. Endless Ocean- been pretty cosistent.
3. Brawl- Actually seems to be finding legs in Japan... non- holiday legs are unheard of their for Wii except Wii Series.
4. SMG looks to have settle finally in japan, it is actually up this week there. I am thinking it will be selling a consisten 50-70 a week WW for quite some time.
5. M&S- this thing is starting to scare me... it legs are shrinking at all since mid feb, and the olympic buzz is still months away... could this thing crack 6 million on Wii? It sure will get christmased seeing that it is uber casual. Also a new highly hyped sonic game could push sales.
6. Sega Super Stars Tennis- You never know, Tennis+Wii+Sonic= alot of sales(legs)... I am gonna say 1 mil in Europe less than 500k for NA and Japan combined.
7.Carnival Games- I really should have put this at the top... it must stop selling... legs must die.
8.Mario kart- most douptedly will have uberlegs(everywhere)
9. WiiFit- Sold 45k in Japan this week been out since Dec 3... Japan has less legs than NA, and far less than others... I am a little terrified at what this could do.... 10+ no doupt WW... Pacter can eat crow.

I will post more as I think of them.

End of 2009 Predictions (Set, January 1st 2009)

Wii- 72 million   3rd Year Peak, better slate of releases

360- 37 million   Should trend down slightly after 3rd year peak

PS3- 29 million  Sales should pick up next year, 3rd year peak and price cut

A big part of this is because the Wii is selling 200k some weeks and 80k other weeks. When you have 2.5x as many people buying the system, you'll inevitably sell more games.
