Forums - Sony - Biggest issue(s) with Sony for you

2. Playstation needs more kid-focused games. This is part of the reason the Vita crashed.

Agreed, they're making some steps in this direction with Ratchet & Clank, as well as Crash coming back and I guess Dreams is also a child-friendly game. However Sony could certainly do better in this regard.

Though I do fully expect a new Sly Cooper game to tie in with the upcoming film, exactly like Ratchet and Clank.

Around the Network

1) Lack of meaningful support for the Vita
2) Expensive Vita memory cards
3) DualShock is in need of a redesign
4) Closing down Liverpool
5) But the biggest problem is first-party software. It's taken a serious dive since the PS2 days. Sony seems to have doubled down on big-budget cinematic action games and experimental quasi-games that focus heavily on presentation and storytelling at the expense of gameplay. I'll continue to buy PS hardware for third-party exclusives like Nioh and Nier Automata, but I no longer feel compelled to invest in software by Guerilla, MediaMolecule, Sucker Punch, Bend, etc. Even Naughty Dog and Japan Studio have been inconsistent over the last two generations. I want fewer "artsy" and cinematic experiences, and more titles with deep and rewarding gameplay.

The PlayStation branch mismanaged the Vita completely, and their 1st party offerings are often too cinematic or talky for their own good. (Specifically I remember wishing narrators in both Puppeteer and LBP3 would just shut up and let me play at times.) I wish their quality control was stricter for 3rd party. Also, much like the Vita, they simply don't advertise their non-tentpole games enough. The PSN storefront is a mess on all platforms, and OS updates are infrequent and rarely add anything of real utility. Also, they're guilty of gouging consumers a bit with online play gated behind PS+ and those damned Vita memory cards.

...

Oh, yeah, and they sold their fucking mascot to Activision. There is no clear 'face' of the PlayStation, at least outside Japan.

I always felt irritated by that. Nintendo has Mario as their mascot, Microsoft has Halo(I guess), but what does Sony have? Is it ratchet and clank? Or Kratos? Or Snake from MGS?

They really need some sort of franchise to be their mascot.

12/22/2016- Made a bet with Ganoncrotch that the first 6 months of 2017 will be worse than 2016. A poll will be made to determine the winner. Loser has to take a picture of them imitating their profile picture.

1. Excellent home console. Plenty of AAA first party and third party support. The reason I am still a gamer is because of their awesome first party games.
2. Makes shit phones. Expensive and boring compared to competition. Walkman brand deserved better in this age in their phones.
3. Good TVs. But a little expensive. But reliable products.

Sending Sly out to die in 2013.

Too many games focused on cinematic storytelling.

As for me I can't stand the movie games and the insistence that story > gameplay. Even God of War is now a movie game. Its the most disappointing thing ever.

Always forget Crash wasn't actually a Sony property. They shouldn't have let it get away in the first place, regardless.

They always drop support really quickly if the device/hardware is not selling as well as they want.
