There are way too many ff games for me to get started on them now. It's just overwhelming to think about so I won't bother.

I know it's overwhelming, but I strongly recommended you give the series a try. It's one of the best in the business. You could start with Final Fantasy, Final Fantasy II (IV in Japan), and Final Fantasy III (VI in Japan), and, if you like those, go from there.

You shouldn't let that put you off. For the most part they aren't really related to each other other than in name and a few game mechanics, so you wouldn't be missing anything by only playing a few of them.

But that is why it is overwhelming to me. I'm a story obsessed person and if something has the same title it SHOULD connect to all others that have that title (Zelda finally admitted to sharing one universe, which made that series finally playable and not just a few games like before to me). If I started any FF, I'd want to start at the beginning and play them all, because they have the same title. Now, if they had different titles and weren't all considered FF, then I could play one series of games or so and that would be fine.

OoooooOOoo, so it's like; Pokemon + Ni No Kuni & Final Fantasy.

I like.

Since you're a story obsessed person, I think you'll like to start with the most famous one, Final Fantasy VII.

Games:

Before Crisis: Final Fantasy VII (mobile phones, released in Japan)

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII (PSP)

Final Fantasy VII (PS, PC, Mobile, PSP, PSVita, PS3, PS4)

Dirge of Cerberus: Final Fantasy VII (PS2)

Films:

Last Order: Final Fantasy VII

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete

Or you can just get Final Fantasy XV, and Final Fantasy VII Remake, and then World of Final Fantasy.

So a vague answer about a connected universe makes Zelda playable? Yeesh.

It looks pretty good, though I'm not a fan of the chibi style in this game.

Vague? Have you read Hyrule Historia? Have you played through the entirety of Skyward Sword or Minish Cap? The timeline makes perfect sense and it makes the Zelda series so much more enjoyable to me. Ganon/Ganondorf and all the other badies are just reincarnates of Demise.

Concerns:

Monster catch system and utilization of caught monsters = potentially way too much like Pokemon. I can play Pokemon if I want. I don't want this to be too similar.

Chibi art. I think this could get annoying over time and the idea that you can change "forms" whenever you want seems a tad pointless to me.

Positives:

Looks to have a classic Final Fantasy vibe, which hasn't been around since the PS2 was reigning supreme.

Overall gameplay and stories should easily surpass 100+ hours, per SE and other sources. Meaning LOTS of replayability.

A fresh take on FF as of late. I probably won't be getting XV unless I hear some really positive things about it from long time FF fans (like myself), and not some of the newer ones who were introduced with FF XIII and later.

I'd almost be willing to buy a Vita just for this game as it seems it would be most fun played portability on a smaller screen. Anyone agree or disagree?

I'm more interested in this one than in FFXV, but both Dragon Quest games for 3DS and SMT IV: Apocalypse are my priorities.
