Forums - Sports - Ronaldo has surpassed Messi today

So what I'm getting from this thread and google is, Lionel Messi is the greatest football player of all time, and will be remembered as such, NICE!

No, you get that from insecure people that dont like to root for a tall, handsome and successfull guy and prefer to root for the short, silent and average one. Has nothing to do with skill.

Ronaldo is certainly a better person and sportsman, that's for sure.

Lol I don't know about that, I don't pay much attention to football but all I ever hear about Ronaldo is what a spoiled brat he is and how he throws tantrums all the time.

First of all, media like to play up stuff like that.

Messi said he'd retire from international football after losing the Copa America final. Luckily he went back on that statement (I want to see Messi play in international tournaments of course, it's enjoyable to watch him play), but doing stuff like that when you lose detracts from how I view him as a sportsman. Second, and more importantly when you make millions a week, yet you commit fraud to exempt tax.... yeah, I can't get myself to think he's a great person. He might redeem himself in my eyes one day perhaps, but I'll have to see it first.

Ronaldo has had chokes, but he never "retired" He kept fighting and has now absolved himself with one of the greatest individual accomplishments in history. Messi is a choking machine on the international stage and until he wins a WC that wont change. One WC win would absolve him, but it hasnt happened yet. Until he stops choking endlessly I cant put him above ronaldo.

Let's be honest though... he could now win 2 World Cups and multiple Champions Leagues in a row and you still would say Ronaldo is better.

I only care about titles. If Messi wins 1 WC he's above Ronaldo period, unless ronaldo wins one too. WC is the top achievement, then comes the Euro and then the CL/CA in my determination.

So in your view Luca Toni > Ronaldo then, yes?

And Arbeloa > Johan Cruyff.

Ronaldo >>>>>>>>Messi. Messi is an average player, he just plays in a great team.

Ronaldo isnt a tax dodging little thief so he wins by default, all that money Messi makes as well.

yeah in 25 Minutes he surpassed him

Also, Champions League today is above the WC in terms of quality because of money being pumped into club football. That wasn't the case 50 years ago.

It's also below in entertainment value for the same reason

Club football is (mostly) about which team has most money to pump into players and managers :-/

Messi is one of the best forwards to ever play football, yet Ronaldo is a better overall player. This tournament hasn't changed that fact. Well done to him and Portugal on their win.

Hmm, pie.

Yeah, and World Cup feels more prestigeous because its nation vs nation, and it invokes a lot of emotions in everyone, as even non football fans can easily get caught up in the excitement.

Such as myself

And that is despite my own nation never even qualifying to international tournaments, yet I still enjoy international tournaments more.
