If everyone says its bad, then its probably pretty bad...just saying.

Everyone who? Metacritic?

Dont ask me. The OP is the one claiming everyone is saying its bad...

the combat is super shallow u only have like 3 moves and 1 super move. this game is only worth 20$ the graphics are amazing i was looking forward to this game so much i got it on gamefly and i barely want to flip it anymore. the story is dull too

i want to like this game but i cant its too basic i cant play with my eyes closed

The only way i'll know for certain is to try it out, but i'll probably wait until its cheaper. At least that's what I'm doing.

I haven't played it yet but it can't be as bad as SO4.

if a game is shorter than expected and you're not bothered by it, feel free to add 10 to the average metacritic rating. on the other hand, if a game is praised by everyone and gets 90+ scores across the board, feel free to subtract 5 from the average metacritic rating. works fine with me.

Is it?... I've kinda been wanting to try it since i've never played a game in the franchise before but all the negative comments and that shit metascore has me thinking otherwise. Anyone here played it and can say whether the hate is justified or not?

It's much better than Star Ocean 4 is the general consensus.

That isn't saying much however.

If you like Star Ocean 3 then you will like Star Ocean 3.5.

If you play other C/B class JRPG's then you will like Star Ocean.

I was not excited for Star Ocean at all up to moment I purchased it. I am enjoying the game. Im am not sayinb the reviews are wrong but SO5 is a typical anime JRPG. These never fare well in the west. If you play JRPG's, especially super Anime ones then you should know what to expect.

I wouldn't say that.  Reviewers are especially biased against SE non-purist non turnbased RPGs.  They look the other way when Atlus and Nintendo games have over the top anime cliches.

I kinda pointed that out in the sentence before. Anime JRPG's most of time be will scored a grade lower than it actually deserves. During 6th gen the entire Altelier Iris series was score a 7 and below by the main westerny reviewers, but those games were awesome. I would give them all a B. It was actually Altelier Iris's treatment in the west that actually pushed me away from using anybody but RPGfan to gauge JRPG's.

Thats why its important for JRPG fans to step the fuck up when it comes to support this style of RPG's. You cant rely on western reviews, especially in todays age to look at a C/B class JRPG without biased. Dont just suck your dick about PS having alot of JRPG's if your not gonna buy them.
