Forums - General - Why Don't You Participate In Mega Threads?

I find that with mega threads you see something new and potentially interesting put in the op heading ,and then you have to hunt for it, because even though the headings new it can be further back than just the last few pages.

Research shows Video games  help make you smarter, so why am I an idiot

Around the Network

I cant speak for others, but for me its really a conglomerate of reasons.I do participate in one or other once in a while, but I dont do it actively because of:

1- Patience. It really depends on wether the subject is interesting or not, but Im not one to actively seek out the same thread everyday to speak.Dont get me wrong, I love speaking and discussing with people, its just not in me to keep that long a conversation with persons on internet that I dont know in real life.Which brings me to my second reason:

2- Bonding. From what I gather and see in the Mega threads, those threads are more about bonding with the users through a subject they love rather than speak about it.And due to my experiences with online communities at large, and also kind of due to my personality, I never manage(or at the very least am able to maintain) relationships that happens only through the internet.Again, dont get me wrong. There are some great users here that are either very inteligent, smart, funny, or all them together. And I love speaking to them. After all, if I didnt like the community and people that visit here, I wouldnt be here at all in the first place. But I dont know, it simply dosent work for me.

And thats about it.Surely there is one or other small reason that I cant quite remember now, but the main ones are presented.Hope you guys still like me after all this rambling =)

My (locked) thread about how difficulty should be a decision for the developers, not the gamers.

My Buddhism only prohibits me from using underwear.

Nintendo is selling their IPs to Microsoft and this is true because:

It's generally difficult to keep track of replies and for some, they don't find it worth it to click on something where they might feel that because there are so many replies, it's difficult to add something to the thread.

In addition to that, I personally, am more likely to reply to a new thread because it's new. I know you can update mega threads via title but it just isn't the same as a "new thread". I guess, they generally lack focus and I can't usually continue in a thread if it isn't focused. It's too much for my small mind to process.

Lastly, personally, I like to have closure with everything I do. I want there to be a beginning and an end so that I can clear my cache at the end and focus on newer things. I feel that megathreads are much different and have a different style than regular threads and they require various tastes. I might be looking too deep into it but that's why I generally avoid them.

I don't think there are any interesting mega threads for me, and if there are I've missed them. And in case there are some, I still think they can be a bit.. intimidating, or possible even chaotic. Threads with up to thousands of pages tend to feel a bit intimidating, mostly because it feels like my posts are going to get lost in there. Not sure if a lot of people care about what I say anyway (and I don't honestly even care that much), but it's the feeling that gets to me.

I visited your thread OP. It was good, but I always feel like I force myself into the conversations. Perhaps I simply worry too much, but when it comes to huge threads that have been going on for a while, I feel like its difficult to simply join in and stick with the thread. Threads nowadays feel outdated; it's not fun flipping through all the pages of posts you missed.

This is simply my viewpoint though. I know some people enjoy being in huge communities that attract them. Personally, I enjoy going in threads that have a specific topic, and usually die after

Maybe the megathreads should evolve into their own site pages. Imagine if you could go to Nintendomination's page and not only have a list of the hot Nintendo topics but also various community tools such as a calendar for events and tourneys, leaderboards and a Court of Law to execute all those traitors who bought PS4s.

Only the truly magnificent magathreads such as PC's and Ninty's should have their own pages, while the lesser ones such as Sony's should just stay threads. Xbox's and PC's could be merged together (Bwahahahahahaha).

I posted in the Anime thread for one day. I'm a casual Anime watcher so a thread dedicated to Anime doesn't feel really accepting.

The main problem I have with mega threads is because they are mega.. titles may catch your eye, but when you click to the last post, discussion may have already moved on. Since these threads are fairly active, trying to keep up to what is happening can be quite the chore, and not everyone has the time to read through the last 30 or so posts just to get up to date with what happened in one day.. And if I haven't taken a look in a thread for over a week, it's really hard to keep up

Because of the pace, sometimes posts will go unheard and it feels like I'm being left out or ignored
Or on the other hand, I may be quoted in the thread and can't find it because it's buried somewhere in the thread (hurray 10 posts per page!)
Somethings trying to post in these threads makes it feel really forced because I'm trying to contribute but don't really have anything to add to the immediate conversation, and derailing the thread with something random doesn't feel right

Some of my thoughts from what I've experienced and observed in mega threads
