| CGI-Quality said: No, we don't moderate every post. The reason? Not every post needs moderating. This has already been explained to you. As for why I'm here, you actually don't know, but I can't expect you to. My point has always been the same, if you aren't going to report posts/threads, we DEFINITELY don't know what's going on, but you're not going to complain about it in here, either. That's, also, against site rules. |
It's easy to decide what does and does not need attention, it's also easy to say something definitely needs clamped down on and what doesn't, but in both of those instances it involves objective judgement and that of course hardly happens unless it's outwardly brash and in your face, which of course no one can ignore at all because it's that type of behaviour and approach that stands out the most.
You've previously moderated someone who called a game "trash" and yet the amount of PC threads that have gone down in flames has resulted in less and in cases ended up being locked.
You can say I don't know but I have a decent hunch as to why. I know what you want me to say if we go via what your second line says and you know why. If you are telling me that I cannot take issues with moderation then I honestly don't know what to say, that is more or less a form of censorship and crititism to claim it;s against site rules to have issues with your or other moderators. I remember the time where mods once had a thread that they had their eyes and control over, like the "come into this room" type thread where anything said against can be brushed aside andthen being asked to leave if it gets too much to handle.
I've placed reports before CGI, if you want me to outwardly and directly tell everyone here who the reports were placed against then just say the word, I know that's what you want because for one you are in afact a moderator, you know who placed the reports, you know I have placed reports and you have shown up like the alst time I placed reports, like the last time a thread got locked due to "too many reports". You know exactly why and you keep saying the same "just place reports" and "if you don't we won't know". The thing is you do know and you know why and yet you allow for these instances to happen over and over because you want to forgive those close to you. Again I know because one person in particular has no interest in PC gaming but was willing to derail it twice and you have done nothing, you have allowed that to slide completely. Derailing and fofering nothing to the topic at hand is against the rules and you overlooked that for that one person, just like the past few times.
See this has gotten blown up because OP wanted to talk about how good PC gaming was, just like other system threads that were made about how X console was great, then of course threads related to PC in one instance or another end up going to hell due to those who aren't interested to come in and go "nope" or repreating the same lines over the years.
I have offered my say on the subject matter, what are you going to do to those that don't?.
I can see why Zero blew up the way he did from the last encounter and I know the same people who were involved came by on a wall to later point and laugh at the man, that isn't at all pleasant nor nice, but I guess it's okay to slag off some people but not others on here and how it's okay to jump in a thread to derail it while not being okay for others.
Also as a last mention "ut you're not going to complain about it in here, either. That's, also, against site rules."
I am heavily going to assume you have set this up with the last "warning" moderation as a means to ban me purely by choice with using such a rule in conjunction with the last.

Nobody is forcing you to put the PC in the living room or play on the couch. ;) Why exactly do you need another $1,500 laptop if you have a desktop PC? If it is for mobile work, you need it anyway, so why even mention it in this context? And why does it have to be such an expensive laptop? It is no rocket science to get a DS4 properly to work with Windows, there are helpful tools that do almost all the work like DS4Windows. Or you just use a 360 or XBO controller. And of course you can lend PC games to friends. Either physical games without account binding, DRM free games (GOG.com / Humble Store) or via Steam sharing: http://www.cnet.com/how-to/how-to-share-your-steam-gaming-library-with-friends-and-family/ |
Well, that's how I like to play. I don't want to sit in a separate room to play games.
Well, because I cannot move my desktop around the house. Not just work but I watch movies on the bed or in my living room on my laptop (how else do I watch game of thrones in my living room?).
DSWindows has a rating of 5/10 based on 76 reviews online. My guess is that it does not work well. And I don't like the Xbox controller.
Mate, I just want to give them a disc to play. Lots of games now use Steam authentication and Steam sharing was made to be a hassle to discourage people from sharing. You have to authorize the computers as well. It's only realistically useful if you live in the same household.

So you don't want a PC in any room, got it.
You don't need a $1.500 laptop to watch some movies. There are dozens of ways how you can watch game of thrones in your living room. Amazon TV stick, ChromeCast, Roku stick, USB-Stick, home console (you don't have to throw all your consoles away if you add a PC to your gaming options), $200 tablet, $300 laptop...
"I don't like the Xbox controller" is a knockout argument. At least you have the option on PC for almost any other controller, most consoles don't give you that choice. How would you like it, if some people come in every Playstation thread and disturb the discussions there with arguments like "But I don't like the DS4 controller"?
You have to authorize the computer of a friend ONCE, not every time he wants to play one of your games. That's not a "hassle to discourage people from sharing" and neither "only realistically useful if you live in the same household."
But why am I trying to set things straight, you'll never give up your prejudices against PC anyways.

Why call it prejudice? If you're happy with a device that does all you want, why go for a more cumbersome way to do the same thing.
I don't know if PC gaming is the best it has ever been. It's still not the most convenient way for lounge gaming. It was perfect for me in the 90's when I was still gaming behind a desk and had everything in the same room interconnected. Living in student housing we put in our own lan network to game between appartments while sharing a high speed internet connection. (high speed for the 90's adsl) My PC was connected to the TV, I could watch (and record) TV/PS1/DC/SVHS/Laserdisc in a window and it could output it all to TV and projector (bought a second hand CRT projector to hang from the ceiling, was awesome with NVidea 3D shutter glasses) I used it to mix all audio sources, it was a mess of cables going back and forth along the walls, 5.1 sound crammed into the room as well, no problem when living alone. PC gaming was pretty magical to me back then, plus the games were all fresh and exciting with new genres and ideas popping up all the time. Pretty hard to top that.
Nowadays it's all in separate rooms and my game time has vastly dwindled. Convenience, simplicity, fast access, easily moveable are all things that matter more now. Anyway I can understand your frustration. I can promote blu-ray quality as much as I want and the awesomeness of physical media and all the extras that come with it, yet most people are happy with netflix streaming quality. Same with consoles and pc.
Funny that some console users here bash or devalue other consoles (Xbox has no exclusives they're going to PC, NX is going to be a weak/gimmicky systems, etc) and now some of them are surprise that this is being used to bash consoles as a whole.

I think I can agree with this.
-PS4/X1 have been incredibly reliable compared to 360/PS3 RROD/YLOD and drive issues.
-Accounting for inflation, even at launch $399/$499, the PS4 and X1 were/are cheaper this gen than last. I am not an Xbox fan, but have to admit some of those sales are absolutely incredible. Wasn't there something like a $249 X1 1TB with 5 games recently? Crazy.
-Both main console systems on Bluray this time, no goofy 2, 3, or 4 disc and beyond zaniness.
-PC is getting more/better third party support than basically any time that I can remember, and I've played PC since Thexder days, and 8 bit computers before that. I started programming at age 5.
-PC gaming is cheaper than ever before for savvy buyers. Someone still needs to come up with a better deal imho for a mass market device. I think for $449ish, perhaps next year an AMD Zen + 8GB Ram + Polaris 8GB GPU Gaming HTPC could be a doable prospect for a midsize computer company. The X51 is close, but imho not quite 'great'.
-Third party adapter means people that prefer an Xbox controller to PS can still play on PS4 perfectly.
-Third party adapter means KB/M players can play on consoles if that's what they want to do.
-AMD/Nvidia's drivers for the past year or so, combined with W10 and Steam, mean that the days of 'ZOMG drivers and updates confuse me!' are no more of an issue than the automated updates and occassional query that X1/PS4 gamers encounter. It's seamless and basically idiot proof unless you wander off and start screwing with stuff. Even games have gotten pretty bulletproof in finding appropriate settings. I built a gaming rig out of leftover parts for my mechanic, one of the least computer-inclined people on the planet, and he has been able to play every game with no problems at default settings that he's tried. And it's not high end. 4.6Ghz 2500k, 8GB DDR3-1866, 2GB 7850OC, bingo.
Basically everyone wins. I see the arguments back and forth, and honestly I shake my head, people like what they like, and it's better than ever for the most part for all gamers.
Now not everything's perfect, some minuses (imho)
-PS4 and X1 both charge for online now. I know some people or many people like the free games thing, but at the same time a lot of gamers are really only into one or two genres, and the slew of indie games and other older releases don't mean much. Even worse if the big game of the month is something they already bought on release. Oh well.
-On both PC and consoles, it's becoming more common for devs/publishers to sometimes release buggy games and finish them later via patches (hopefully at least). Sometimes poor performance/optimization can mar otherwise good/great titles.
-Downgrades from demo to release seem almost to be a rule these days. You find this even on PC, and on console games some publishers have become infamous enough that people should expect the final product to be slightly to severely uglier than the initial trailers and gameplay footage.
-Online communities, from in-game to forums to Youtube and social media, they seem more toxic, hostile, and immature than ever before. The more anonymous the interaction, the more likely you are to run into some absolutely worthless piece of garbage spewing profanity and ignorance like it's a contest to be the world's biggest a-hole. Parallel to this is my vast preference to games where people can run their own private servers, and a server browser is available. That way if you really enjoy a game, you can find a server that is run by great management that perma-bans dickheads on sight. I have a handful of BF4 PC servers that do this, and it's magnificent. Organized and well coordinated, highly skilled teamplay, without squeaky 11 year olds ranting in homophopic racist diatribes every 1.2 milliseconds.
-We are STILL being deluged with remasters now nearly THREE years into gen8. As a PC gamer primarily, I want to roll my eyes at paying for the same damned old games with a resolution hike, regardless of whether its a console release or a PC release. It's primarily an issue on consoles, but I just feel that those resources would be better spent on new titles, either new IPs or sequels to the games in question. I mean it's not all bad, especially if the remaster is done extremely well, and perhaps the person didn't own the 'other' console last gen and wants to play Halo MCC or UCC that they missed, but man, it just feels overdone. I saw a list of the remasters this gen, and it's simply crazy.
Ah well, game on.
| GOWTLOZ said: Some console fans argue that PC gaming is too difficult to get into and too expensive. But its not! There are so many choices that you can build a PC with a decent enough rig to just run current gen game, or a high end PC to run them at the best setting, or anything that falls between these two. Here are some of the things that make PC gaming better: Free online - Yup but I was paying for PS+ before the ps4 even came out, and for me it pays for itself EASILY. Rocket League was free on ps+ at launch, £14.99 on Steam, that's almost half a year of PS+ payed for with just one game. Can play all games released in the last three decades on one platform - Yes this is an advantage! Steam prices are cheap - After a few months, at launch they're usually the same price, consoles are getting much closer in parity this generation then they were before though with weekly sales on the stores. BF4 and Hardline were both £3.99 each on ps4 a week or so ago. This point also doesn't affect me becuase I rent which saves me FAR more money and isn't an option on PC. Supports mods - Yes another advantage! Can play a game at the highest settings possible - If you spend a lot of money. Can emulate older consoles - I can emulate older consoles on my phone, (though currently Wii, PS2 and Gamecube emulation is pretty much only viable on PC. Also very soon WiiU.) Gets most indie games - The PlayStation 4 gets most of the indie games i'd want to play anyway. Simulation and RTS games that consoles lack - I love RTS games unfortunately the genre has been in a bit of a slump for about a decade, the greats like cossacks, age of empires, empire earth, empires dawn of the modern world, american conquest... though it does seem to be picking up again. Best controlsfor shooters are keyboard and mouse - Sure the best controls for being competitive, for winning and having a higher skill ceiling. But I vastly prefer playing games with a gamepad, whether they're a shooter or not. It's a much more enjoyable experience for me. Also supports controllers for games that are better with them - This isn't really an advantage over consoles, the advantage would be the point above. Accessories are cheaper - Errr what accessories? The decent wheels work on both ps4 and pc, any headest works on the ps4... what other accessory do you want? You can build a cheaper and weker PC than consoles or a better and more expensive one, you have so many options - Yes options are a good thing, but building a PC cheaper than a console? Anything cheaper than you can pick up a xbo/ps4 is complete trash. I made the CHEAPEST possible PC on PC Parts Picker an it came to £153 not even including an OS. It won't even run new games.
This gen it has become even better: Will get all Xbox exclusives - Yes this is a great thing for PC Gaming! Can play some PlayStation exclusives - ??? I'm a PlayStation fan but you have to be kidding me to say that consoles are better than PC's in any significant way. - Subscribing to a rental service on consoles (£10/month for unlimited ps4 rentals) saves far more money than "steam sales" and you can rent from launch day. - Hardware is substantially cheaper, easier to use and will be supported longer. Any PC you build for sub £300 will barely run anything in a couple of years, not to mention it'll take 5 minutes to boot to the bloody desktop, before I got an SSD Windows was a nightmare. - For some the PS+ service will more than pay for itself in free games. - You can trade in your physical games which is not an option on PC. |
^ Responses in BOLD, Console gaming is the best option for the majority of gamers. It's more accessible and cheaper.
