Would Bayonetta be considered hack and slash?

If yes, then that one did it. New GoW looks nothing like it predecessors from what I've seen. Which is why I have little to no interest in it.

Yes Bayonetta is. However I'm talking about sales and Bayonetta 2 didn't sell well.

I'm not surprised about the next part, you said the same thing about past GOW games and no that its changed you still comnplain lol.

What did I say about the past GOW games? I didn't like the main protag. but loved the gameplay...

I love how no one here has played the new GoW, yet they are so quick to say what it is and isn't xD

So does that mean the trailer on Playstation youtube channel is fake?

No, but we only saw a little bit of possibly early in the game. Way too early to judge it. Santa Monica themselves confirmed that the epic fights the series is known for are coming back and they showed that demo to show how the story will be. I honestly don't care either way, I love God and this is arguably my most excited game from E3. Just don't want people to jump to any conclusions just yet until they show more. I'm just glad Kratos is back :)

They are not the same but are you so much against a change? They are reinvigorating the series, but the gameplay for God of War is hack and slash. Watch the fights against the smaller enemies and trolls.

Its nothoing like TLOU, other than you having a younger companion. But it plays very differently and has a different vibe than TLOU.

I dont care about the little kid - never used it in my argument.

Look at the PoV and look at the actual combat between the two videos. The New God of War is slow paced compared to God of War 3 because GoWPS4 is a action adventure game, not a pure action hack and slash.

Also against change? Are you serious bro!?!!!!?!?!

I'm fricken excited for the new God of War for PS4. Its possibly my most favorite reveal/showcase this E3 excluding Final Fantasy XV , The Legend of Zelda BotW and Kingdom Hearts 2.8.

I love hack and slash games but I'm not gonna miss it if God of War goes action adventure like it showcases in the reveal trailer - best step of direction for the series imo since Action adventure games seem more popular than Hack and slash action games.

The camera has been used before TLOU, it has existed for over a decade. TLOU is one of the tens of games to use that, and GOW using it isn't taking anything from TLOU.

A hack and slash game could be made more slow paced, again haven't slow paced games existed for a decade? That's not anything original that came in existence with TLOU.

Slow paced or not, the action still has a punch to it, and it still relies on weapon and hand to hand combat, dodging and looks much like a hack and slash game to me.

I've seen some of your posts in the past and you always seemed to show hatred for Kratos, but never praised the gameplay or any other aspects of the games.

Can someone explain what hack n slash is as I was certain GOW was hack n slash.

Anything that is like the following

God of War 1, 2, 3, Ghost of Sparta, Chains of Olympus and Acension

Devil May Cry 1, 2, 3, 4 and DmC

Bayonetta 1 and 2

Killer is Dead

Lollipop Chainsaw

Ninja Gaiden (7th gen and post)

No More Heroes

Metal Gear Rising Revengeance

and anything similar to the above.

So by your definition it has to be from a narrow template of existing games in the genre to be hack and slash?

Dont get me wrong - I'm excited regardless of how it ends up like.

I've been waiting for a Norse God of War - whether it be a h/s action game or a action adventure wont deter me from getting it.

Yeah I understand man, I feel the same too. Still I want to see fights with a lot more enemies on screen to make sure if it's gonna be more action/adventure or hack and slash.

I'm waiting to play the game before I say it's a TLOU rip-off or not a hack 'n slash or whatever. I could show you gameplay from Ratchet & Clank that'd make it look like a stealth game or a flight combat shooter, that doesn't mean it is.

I view the new god of war as an action game, not a hack and slash like the original, Metal Gear Rising, DMC or Bayonetta.

The combat looks very different and slower, what I saw at e3 was not a hack and slash imo, though that's good for me as i'm not a massive fan of hack and slash games. What they showed looked like some cross between God of War and Dark Souls....

But we've barely seen the game.

Yes it has been used before TLoU.....duh, TLoU isnt the first action-adventure game.

"The action still has a punch to it, and it still requires on weapon and hand to hand combat"

You pretty much generalized more than half of all the games ever made.

Its not my definition - those are actual hack and slash games that have defined the genre for years.

God of War could redefine the genre, just by not following an existing template in said genre it does not stop being a hack and slash game.

The gameplay had characteristics of hack and slash games - focus on close range combat, usage of weapons, a variety of attacks, variety of enemies.

Well I don't know what you're talking about. I loved the gameplay, just hate Kratos. Set pieces are incredible too.

My understanding of hack n slash has always been any game where you get to hack n slash npcs with a bladed weapon. The combat can be fast or slow, technical or simple and the number of enemies you fight can be a few at a time or dozens.

I think it's too early to say speak about the new GOW simply because from what we've heard but not seen the fighting of many enemies is coming back and we have a more technical combat system in place with the Axe and hand to hand combat.

I can't see why hack n slash can't have rpg elements or adventure elements. The first Devil May Cry game had platforming, puzzles and a far more open design in comparison to many hack n slash games but it's still considered hack n slash.

Onimusha which is also considered hack n slash was more action adventure and much slower compared to other hack n slash games.

I still see the new GOW as a hack n slash game as that is still the core gameplay, but as it has been pointed out, it will have some rpg or adventure elements in there.

Just like majority of games out there.

Variety of enemies - as if that is original, okay then.

The majority of games do not have a focus on close range combat or use weapons for combat, the focus is usually on long range combat and a lot of strategising in most games, and they do not offer a veriety of melee attacks.

Variety of enemies in hack and slash games is far greater than most other genres, previous God of War games each had 30 different types of enemies in a single game. We already saw four types of enemies in a ten minute demo of the new game. That's more than any other God of War game has had in its first ten minutes.
