More time is never a bad thing in development. ;)

The Xbox One and Playstation 4's Firmware/Software wasn't exactly fully fleshed out on launch, nor was the Xbox 360's and Playstation 3's.

Thing is, Nintendo has likely had that extra development time already.  NX was probably their focus for quite some time now, possibly as early as 2014, as evidenced by the lack of new WiiU games beginning development since around then.  My guess is that holiday '16 was their initial target.

March may not be the ideal time for the launch of a new console, but it allows them to have the spotlight of new hardware all to themselves (Neo notwithstanding), have NX out in time for their fiscal year's end, and save the holidays for big game releases as well as a possible handheld variant, since NX will likely have more than one form factor.

I think you are missing the point completely.

The point is... The development of a consoles software and hardware ecosystem doesn't stop once a console is launched. There are constantly new hardware revisions and software updates.

Ok, so, those constant new hardware revisions and software updates happen after a console is launched.  They're there post-launch, regardless.  So it still comes down to them being ready to launch in March as your original point addressed, which I believe they should.

Eh, I don't see them delaying it. They realistically need an injection of some kind to boost their profile in the gaming market sooner rather than later, and at the same time Nintendo aren't in competition with MS or Sony in the power department so the "4K" argument doesn't really hold water.

Hopefully by Holiday 2017 the NX will have a recent library of games too so it should do OK. Hopefully!

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

They could be there pre-launch to give a better first impression... And let's face it, with how badly the Wii U has done (Hint: It was a colossal failure compared to the Wii from a sales perspective)
Nintendo needs every positive first impression it can get... And I hope they get it. More competition is always a good thing.

So go a full year without any software releases. Not a good plan.

Delaying it for longer, especially when the Wii U is barely getting support would be a bad idea

Nintendo needs to get the NX and Zelda out ASAP in my opinion. 4k will not be able to be utilized by most right away so as long as the NX can handle all upcoming 3rd party games at 1080p without performance issues, I think that is the way to go.

At this point it needs to he about the games, not 4k.

Nintendo should launch when they are ready.

Ready equals:
1) Nintendo content is ready at launch.
2) Nintendo content is in the pipeline to maintain relative continuous launches.
3) 3rd parties have some content ready and in their own pipelines. (least important)

Nothing else. Nintendo can sell 10MM and remain profitable as a company as proven by WiiU. Nintendo can sell 100MM and still not get relatively significant 3rd party support. All they need is their IPs and their ingenuity.

I am eager to see what new ways to play Nintendo has dreamed up with NX.

At this point they're already very late, so it doesn't really matter if they miss the March window. That's really just to have something to show for the fiscal year, but if they miss it, whatever.

They can launch in June/July/August without much fuss.

If there is a portable NX I think they probably want the holiday season for that.
