More time is never a bad thing in development. ;)

The Xbox One and Playstation 4's Firmware/Software wasn't exactly fully fleshed out on launch, nor was the Xbox 360's and Playstation 3's.

Thing is, Nintendo has likely had that extra development time already.  NX was probably their focus for quite some time now, possibly as early as 2014, as evidenced by the lack of new WiiU games beginning development since around then.  My guess is that holiday '16 was their initial target.

March may not be the ideal time for the launch of a new console, but it allows them to have the spotlight of new hardware all to themselves (Neo notwithstanding), have NX out in time for their fiscal year's end, and save the holidays for big game releases as well as a possible handheld variant, since NX will likely have more than one form factor.

I think you are missing the point completely.

The point is... The development of a consoles software and hardware ecosystem doesn't stop once a console is launched. There are constantly new hardware revisions and software updates.
