Should the Nintendo NX be delayed to the Holiday season 2017?

I think it's too late in the development to make changes now..... I also think launching march 2017 is better than launching against scorpio in holiday 2017, though NEO may come march 2017... who knows.

I don't think Nintendo should aim for 4k, just as I don't think developers should aim for 4k with Scorpio/Neo.

Because of the lack of people who own 4K TVs right now?

Not just that, I feel aiming for 1080p 60fps is a much better choice than 4k 30fps. 4k takes a HUGE amount of power and I just think that power could be better spent on other things.

+ I would add that the NX would be able to have a better library of games at this time then if it has only his launch library during the only season.

More games on the platform would definitely attract more people.

Yup, launching in march would definitely mean it'll have a better library of games by holiday 2017 for people looking to pick one up for the holidays. I think a spring release is defnitely the right decision, also if the launch is handled well in spring and the general consensus from people who own it is that it's a great device it gives a lot of positive buzz that Nintendo will need for the holidays!

Successful spring launch can make the holidays bigger then they'd be if it was launched then.

Holiday 2016 would have been the better date, but between spring 2017 and holiday 2017, spring is the right choice imo.

Holiday season so they can make the NX as powerful as it needs to be? Or should they just go with their current plan for a March 2017 release?

I think they will reveal the thing in september, with a march release date. Anyways, how do we know their current plans apart from some rumours saying that the console is stronger than ps4, and other rumours saying that the console is weaker? could go either way cause nobody knows...  NX could have a gpu made out of adamantium.

They just need to stick to the current play of March 2017 and I don't see any reason to delay until holiday 2017 or add in 4k, It will be to far along in development to change specs anyway outside of minor tweaks and if they boosted specs to run 4k which would make the price higher it's hardly going to allow them to reach a wider audience.

Nintendo's current approach is fine if they stick with their plan of having a consistent stream of significant/high-profile releases after the NX's launch window. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo used the 2017 holiday season to release a handheld form factor of the NX.

With the Xbox Scorpio and PS4 Neo touting 4K, I have a feeling that's gonna become the norm.

But then again, most people still have TVs that only have 1080p instead of 4K, and the price of 4K TVs doesn't help (the cheapest I found at BestBuy is at least $600).

Plus, I don't know if many people are happy with the idea of having to get a brand new TV just for the new consoles.

Anyway, to get to the point, Nintendo would like to reach a wider audience with the NX, which is hopefully more powerful than the PS4, but what if releasing so soon before the PS4 Neo and Scorpio isn't a good move? Should Nintendo delay it to the 2017 Holiday season so they can make the NX as powerful as it needs to be? Or should they just go with their current plan for a March 2017 release?

You don't need a new TV for PS4 Neo or Xbox Scorpio.

And what would a NX delay accomplish for Nintendo? Another 6 - 8 months with almost no Wii U, 3DS and NX games to sell?

I think holiday 2017 is probably ear marked for the NX portable (provided there are two hardware lines). So they probably want to get the console out a few months before that to give it a few months on its own.

I don't think Nintendo really is interested in matching the specs on Neo/Scorpio. I'd be OK if NX is about as powerful as XB1 (not happy, but OK with it).

At least that would be a very good sized upgrade over the Wii U, whereas Wii was not over the GameCube.

You'd be easily able to run a game like Zelda: BotW at 1080P + 60 fps with added detail, better textures, better lighting/shading, higher poly count, etc.

For Nintendo's needs that's quite good.

March is not a great time to launch a console but if Zelda is ready (and it should be, it's been in development forever), and you have 2 other smaller scale Nintendo titles to go with it along with a few third party ports ... that's a good enough launch. Better to launch than just wait.

There are still tons of people that don't even have 1080p yet, so no it shouldn't target 4k.

It's pretty much too late to make significant changes now. Dev kits are out, manufacturing has begun. We'll just have to see if they made changes after the Neo and Scorpio rumors first broke, before it was too late.

I wouldn't be surprised if part of the reason for skipping the 2016 holiday season was to make some changes to the hardware after catching wind of what Microsoft/Sony were doing.
