Nope, Disc rot doesn't happen only due to sunlight... It can happen if there is a scratch on the disc that allows oxygen into it as well as many other reasons... Just because its rated at 100-200 years doesn't mean it actually will last you that long... SSD's for example are rated for many life times but most ssds die within 5-10 years in real world situations due to the way that people use them.

Of course stuff like this can happen if you are careless, but you can lose also all your digital games if youre banned on PSN or Steam for being careless. So whats your point?

Blue Rays are also near unscratchable dueto to their disc protection, and scratches shouldnt cause this i dont think so

My point is that it is significantly easier to scratch/damage/lose your disc than to get banned from psn/steam loll. Heck, you really need to do something zomg worthy to get banned from Steam... People have cheated countlessly in valve's own games and they still aren't banned.

And blurays are not near unscratchable... Where do you get this type from stuff from? They are harder to scratch yes but they are still relatively easy to scratch. Like my sister scratched my Smash Bros 4 bluray disc pretty easily...

I got this impression because i smashed my own PS3 game at the ground when i lost in Tekken Tag 2 so bad :) it worked just fine if you wish it with a microfiber. One of my Blue Ray Games also has a crack near the hole but it also just works fine, same is true for a PC DVD Game where even some parts are missing on the disc near the same spot. They work fine because the laser is also more advanced. Your sister clearly tried to scratch it on porpose with a thin objects thats why the disc isnt working anymore. However there are vaious places where you can get the disc refubished.

Getting banned is pretty easy these days on the internet, just look at forums. Your profile says itself that you got banned on PSN. And i am pretty sure its possible on steam too.

She certainly didn't do it on purpose since its her favorite game... Of course, I am not saying it will stop working when it's scratched cause it does still work but a scratch = letting oxygen in which = disc rot overtime. A few years down the road and the game will stop working.

And I got banned from PSN cause I was hacking my ps3 which if you try it, it is very hard to do... I rarely bought stuff from PSN so me being banned wasn't something I cared much about considering the benefits of having a hacked ps3. If I did have tons of things on PSN, I certainly wouldn't have hacked it. And yea it is possible to get banned from steam but the arguement isn't whether or not u can get banned but rather, how hard it is to get banned compared to how hard it is to damage a disc. And we all know that it is much harder to get banned than to actually damage a disc.

Blurays and etcs are strong enough to work even when the disc is damaged/scratched but as soon as it is damaged, it is open to Disc rot overtime and that is my point. Not that it will stop working asap.

Dumb move by Sony. By starting over you will be back to 0 each generation while Microsoft will be around 30 - 40 million regarding their last console which should run all the new games pretty well. Not to mention windows 10 PC gaming machine will increase their install base as well. Microsoft is really helping developers by making it easy to make games for xbox/pc and having a huge install base to help sell their games.

Didn't seem like a problem for them all these generations, and PS3 drop of BC plus X1 low usage of BC shows that your point isn't regarded as important by most of gamers.

When someone want to play the newest games they also want the best game available (making choices for Multiplats) not the minimum bearing situation. If not by that why did even at the first year of X1PS4 CoD were already selling better on it than on PS360?

So Sony are still going for defined generations while MS will go for the continuous updated consoles route

If they do indeed go ahead with the PlayStation 5 I expect it will be Sony's last defined generation and the ps5 will be continuously updated, and I expect it won't be called the PlayStation 5 either.

It might be so;  Playstation World, or Universe, or something like that;  and maybe a good upgrade every 2-3 years.  We will see.

PlayStation 5 is definitly going to happen. I think Sony is going to change the branding of their games to simply PlayStation. You will See PlayStation listed in advertising along side Google Play, App Store, Windows Store.

I think all games will continue to be compatible with all PlayStations going back to the OG PS4 for some time. The only difference is PS5 games will be allowed to have additional modes, extras, and enhancments beyond the PS4 and Neo titles. Of course at some point their will be a cut off for PS4 OG support, and it will be a well devlivered ending to the console, that clearly and solidly defines its end.

Beyond this, I also have a strong belief that we will see a PlayStation Phone and Tablet/Laptop once the 10/7nm FinFet is ready for mass production. With Sony winding down Xperia production, and Kaz Harai saying that the mobile and tablet industry needs a major innovation, plus him being a full on PlayStation guy, I think the writting is on the wall These devices will also play all software and applications from the PlayStation library, creating a PlayStation ecosystem that competes with Apple, Google, and Microsoft, but built by gamers and for gamers.

There will still be separate versions. I imagine ps4 games will come on 3 layer 4K UHD discs or even 4 layer BDXL discs with a proprietary format. Maybe the Neo can be patched to read those too, not the ps4. And even for the digital version, bandwidth still costs money. If the Neo version can save 30-50GB on hi-res textures / 1080p cut scenes then it's better for the servers and the consumer. Digital cross buy sure, sticking a ps5 disc in a Neo, not so sure.

I'm guessing PS5 will essentially be an upgraded PS4. But PS5 games may not support PS4 and/or Neo.

This situation was never done before. The difference between xbox one/ps4 and xbox 360/ps3 is pretty huge especially if games utilize the hardware. The difference between scorpio and the ps5 won't be a huge difference. PS5 will probably have around 8tf of gpu, a little bit better cpu and ram. Games for scorpio at that time will be over medium settings while PS5 will be around high. Of course Microsoft should have an xbox 2. This way if you own a scorpio you won't be left out. Each console should give you six years of life. Xbox one -2019 scorpio -2025, ect... This way there will be a cheap alternative to gaming if you can't spend a lot of money.
