| KBG29 said: PlayStation 5 is definitly going to happen. I think Sony is going to change the branding of their games to simply PlayStation. You will See PlayStation listed in advertising along side Google Play, App Store, Windows Store. I think all games will continue to be compatible with all PlayStations going back to the OG PS4 for some time. The only difference is PS5 games will be allowed to have additional modes, extras, and enhancments beyond the PS4 and Neo titles. Of course at some point their will be a cut off for PS4 OG support, and it will be a well devlivered ending to the console, that clearly and solidly defines its end. Beyond this, I also have a strong belief that we will see a PlayStation Phone and Tablet/Laptop once the 10/7nm FinFet is ready for mass production. With Sony winding down Xperia production, and Kaz Harai saying that the mobile and tablet industry needs a major innovation, plus him being a full on PlayStation guy, I think the writting is on the wall These devices will also play all software and applications from the PlayStation library, creating a PlayStation ecosystem that competes with Apple, Google, and Microsoft, but built by gamers and for gamers. |
There will still be separate versions. I imagine ps4 games will come on 3 layer 4K UHD discs or even 4 layer BDXL discs with a proprietary format. Maybe the Neo can be patched to read those too, not the ps4. And even for the digital version, bandwidth still costs money. If the Neo version can save 30-50GB on hi-res textures / 1080p cut scenes then it's better for the servers and the consumer. Digital cross buy sure, sticking a ps5 disc in a Neo, not so sure.
