Forums - Sony Discussion - Playstation: 21 Million PS+ Subscribers

So they are doing a very good job on their end with PS4 and PSN+, congrats to them.

It's doing so well that it's affecting Sony as a company positively.  The Playstation eco system is making massive profits now and that's largely thanks to ps plus

It was 48 million subscribers earlier this year so Gold.

Thats not for gold. That's for gold and silver, Forbes misreported it. If you actually look into the Microsoft PR itself, it reads that

  • Live monthly active users grew 30% year-over-year to a record 48 million
And that's it. That's all they mention on it. There's no way Microsoft grew it's install base by 30% in one year for paid subscriptions, PSN has more monthly active users and I believe their paid user numbers are within the ballpark of each other now

There's no way that there are 48M gold subs.

It seems that the article meant gold and silver members.

Wtf, why are so many people still using a 360.

Why not? 360 is an awesome console!

360 represents 180 million consoles that require a Xbox Live account to play online

A Xbox Live account was already required to play online on the original Xbox. 360 just expanded the model that was already introduced.

I had been gaming for 7 years online(ps3) and had no need of PS+ until I got my ps4

Way back in September 2014, Xbox had around 17m Xbox Live Gold subscribers. Not sure if that has increased or decreased since then.

So how many gold users would you say there are now? 25M?

No, I expect it to have decreased. Because at the time from when that figure is from, there were still many 360 users. Now with far fewer people using the 360, and many 360 owners upgrading to a PS4, I think there are probably 10-12m Gold subscribers now.  Of course, there's no way to know without numbers from Microsoft.
