Forums - Gaming - Driving Games To Be Photorealistic Next Gen?

I think this generation is mostly just a focus on things like geometry and texture quality and getting things extremely near being representational of real life.

Next generation we should see a greater focus on smaller details like "grime".

Still a long way to getting past uncanny valley though.

I guess even in 20 years when I walk around outside it will look better as in a game but with some super linear experiences or for single objects in a whole environment it may look really realistic next gen (but still not like real life).

Some screenshots of cars may look like photos of real cars next gen but playing a racing game won't look like real life next gen.

And what is it with all these gifs? What are they supposed to show us? That gifs fool our brain and don't let us see much of the flaws and as smaller the gif as more realistic a game looks?

The difference is still there.

Maybe, but one must admit it's pretty inpressive har far we've come. Besides, the OP said next gen, not right now. :P

Jesus christ there's no way That's from a game.

It looks gorgeous.

Driveclub looks more impressive than that, in real life.

Driveclub looks great but it still has flaws which GIFs hide and it surely doesn't look like reality. In all these GIFs you don't see all the not so great looking smaller details because, well, the GIFs are small or just in low quality.

That's how our brain works, if we don't see the more unrealistic looking details then our brain just tells us "it looks real"

How am I supposed to see the flaws in the environment here:

I can also watch some Superhero movie on a small 4 inch Smartphone screen and then I won't see some of the flaws of the CGI scenes but that doesn't mean that they aren't there and that I won't see them when I see it on a 60 inch TV screen in 4k.

It doesn't look photorealistic, but the difference in resolution between the game and the gifs is huge, and it makes it look worse. Also the particle effects are better than that a lot of the time, the game looks better.

The increased resolution improves the look not make it look worse. The environments are very detailed in the game but you can't see every small detail in the game because you drive on the road in sports cars at high speeds and the camera doesn't allow you to see distant environments in detail.

yeah Driveclub looks pretty photo realistic, i hope it gets patched to run in 60fps for the neo

I just realized Forza 7 is likely going to be pushed as a Scorpio title. That could be a benchmark in racing genre graphics along with 4K. Now I'm intrigued about that game.

If Driveclub gets patched I imagine the focus would be resolution. But 60 fps is ideal.

Forza 7 will also be on PC and will look even better than that. It will be the best looking racing game on GTX 1080.
